hi i'm waxine! i'm mostly on here to post about the aurora cycle, but i also love classic rock, classic literature, and fashion. usually those interests end up getting mixed in some way, shape, or form.

What should Mary's Christmas special give us?

My wishlist for The Other Bennet Sister Christmas special:

Mary and Tom learning how to be married without turning into other people's idea of married

Mrs Bennet trying very hard, and succeeding maybe 38 percent of the time

One Caroline Bingley update, preferably delivered with maximum self-importance

Evidence that Mary's work and mind still matter after the romance

What are you hoping for?

-tom defending mary in front of her mother (not that mary can't defend herself, but sometimes you get tired and need someone else to take over)

-more lore on tom's backstory. we literally know like 3 things about his pre-mary life

ikkkk the show is called 'the other bennet sister' and not 'the other hayward brother' but i wish we knew more about tom's backstory. i have been only watching the show but did just get the book so maybe it has a little bit more info on that, but i'd love to see if he had formative experiences growing up that led him to relate to mary more than the viewer might understand. bc i not only love tom as mary's love interest, i love him as a character by himself and i just wanna Know More

I know we've got teens and minors on here somewhere, and I saw a post that got me thinking about being a teen. I'm going to go into some heavy stuff here and a little bit of what I learned in my BS in Psych, so let's cut here.

Someone said when they were a teenager, they couldn't imagine being in their twenties. I think in this modern era that translates into this self-assumption that one must be suicidal.

But if you actually think about it, teenagerhood -> adulthood is really the first massive scale life transition of its kind. Of course you can't imagine what's on the other side, you've never had any practical life experience with it before.

I had no conception of what my life after my teens would be like. I was terrified of it. My dad was the same -- he couldn't imagine his 20s or beyond, so he assumed he'd die somehow before then. There seemed to be no other option, to me or to him. But neither of us were suicidal, and life just... kind of came along in time.

Now that I'm 22 this is what I want every teenager to know. It's totally normal to have no idea what life after your teens will look like. It doesn't mean something is wrong with you or that something bad is coming for you. It doesn't mean you have something to panic about and it doesn't mean you are suicidal or depressive by default based solely on that experience.

It is normal not to be able to conceptualize adulthood in your teens. You are normal if you feel that way. You're okay.

what's amazing about "the other bennet sister" is that the show managed to portray a compelling unconventional heroine while avoiding falling into the easy misogynistic traps of:

"the ugly duckling transforms into a beautiful swan"

"this girl is not like the other girls and therefore she's better than the other girls"

"this girl was secretly special or superior all along" and the mary sue trope

"love is the answer to all problems and a good marriage solves all problems"

"true love and a kind man cures a woman of her insecurities and desire for independence"

"marriage was the worst outcome for a young woman during this time period"
