a few years ago I might’ve agreed with you, but nowadays I find sketchy, extremely grey morality Phil to be WAY more interesting than altruistic “I model myself after Steve Rogers” Phil. this is the guy who:
works for a shady government organization
steals YEARS worth of Jane Foster’s scientific research, just because his shady government organization needs it more
becomes the head of said shady government organization IMMEDIATELY after it’s revealed it was overrun by nazis
he’s been operating without altruism for a long time now, and it’s really cool seeing that in balance with his general witty and kind demeanor. like this guy is the definition of lawful neutral. he’s always valued the state of the government over the state of the people.
but yes he’s definitely run his fair share of dnd campaigns. I’m thinking 2nd edition is his favorite, but I’ve never played it so I don’t know for certain.
