@meta-buck
*nervously calls crush bro*
avengers: infinity war spoiler but I don’t give you the context
*this* is the Captain America we need to be hearing from right now, not ‘fascism made edgy for plot-twists’
THE REAL STEVE ROGERS
I need to talk about the fact that Bucky’s still got his right hand 100% free and could be punching Spider Man into next Tuesday already. But he still stood frozen, looking shocked as all fucks and lemme tell you right now that that was not because someone’s managed to block his metal fist because lbr the metal arm was never unstoppable before, especially when super-enhanced/-equipped people are involved – so basically he doesn’t take that punch cus he’s actually just now able to hear the other guy’s voice and it clicks that this is just a fucking k i d
#THANK YOU SOMEBODY FOR SAYING THIS OTHER THAN ME#LIKE THANK FUCKING CHRIST SOMEBODY REMEMBERS THAT THIS IS A GUY WHO STOOD UP FOR ITTY BITTY STEVE SINCE CHILDHOOD#AND NOW HE HEARS THIS ITTY BITTY VOICE AND IS LIKE#FUCK IT’S A BABBY I CANNOT HIT THE BABBY HE IS SMOL WHY IS HE OUT RISKING HIS LIFE WHERE IS HIS GUARDIAN RN#WHY IS HE NOT IN SCHOOL FFS

befriending me is just basically getting a front-row ticket to my easily-excited ass yelling about everything, always. even if i’m not literally yelling i’m still, in spirit, yelling. that’s the ticket you bought. you didn’t ask for it but you got a backstage pass too, free of charge. welcome to hell

OK SO I WAS AT THE FABRIC STORE AND I WALKED BY SOME MEMORIAL DAY THEMED FABRIC AND
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS
WHY ARE THE ABS SO DETAILED AND NOT THE FACE WHAT
OMFG LINCOLN LOOKS LIKE EDWARD CULLEN WITH A BEARD I CAN’T DEAL WITH THIS SHIT
I HAVE A DRESS MADE OUT OF THIS FABRIC AND I GOT TO BE IN A PARADE BECAUSE OF IT
This is the Alexander Henry Pin-Up collection - and they are all fucking amazing!
OKAY I WORK IN A FABRIC STORE AND ONE TIME THIS LITTLE OLD LADY CAME UP TO ME AND SLAMMED THE INDEPENDENCE DAY ONE DOWN ON THE COUNTER AND SAID, “THIS. THIS IS WHAT OUR COUNTRY NEEDS.”
I had an older man come into the fabric store that I used to work in and dropped 3 bolts of the firefighter one on my counter and said, “I need this. I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it, but I need it.” a man behind him then yelled, “Pyjamas!” and the first man said, “My husband recommends pyjamas.”
“C’mon, Buck, let’s get this off too.”
“But, Steve…”
“We promised never to hide from each other, remember? Please, I need to see all of you… feel all of you…”
“Well all of me’s not here! I… I’m not - ”
“You’re perfect, Bucky.”
(Just my thinking that Bucky might be a bit self-conscious after losing his metal arm… I was also inspired by the reveal that Steve did visit Bucky a couple times in Wakanda prior to Infinity War! ^3^)

hulkphobia in millennial society: discuss.
tender hulk is not only stigmatized as a fan creation, but also flat out ignored when in canon. the hulk is a separate entity with his own thoughts, feelings, and ideas, which are separate yet intrinsically connected to bruce banner. the hulk is a protective, caring, emotionally intelligent being who is constantly overlooked and reduced to a big, dumb strongman due to his often impulsive nature and simplistic speech pattern, an act of which is routed in ableism. in this essay i will
just gonna leave these here #gentlehulkiscanon
110% true, gentle Hulk is so important to me. I’ve read a HELL of a lot of Hulk comics and especially in the early ones Hulk never ONCE attacked first. People see him (mostly military) and go omg giant scary monster! And attack him and Hulk OFTEN wonders WHY he is being attacked. He’s stated he doesn’t know why they are doing it and also stated that he WASN’T DOING ANYTHING but of course he will defend himself.
Hulk has also canonly stated “hulk is tired of the guns and the noise and the fighting”
And the few people that approach him nicely he defends the hell out of.
That’s why I love him so much. Hulk is so much more and I could rant for hours. I love this post for being this up
I HONESTLY THOUGHT HULK WAS JUST “RAAAR SMASH” THANK YOU FOR WIPING AWAY MY HORRIBLE PRECONCEPTIONS
This is certified 100% soft and I am on board.
IIRC, part of Hulk’s existence as a whole is to protect Bruce to an extent, so…there’s that
I think it’s overlooked sometimes how political Guardians of the Galaxy 2 actually got.
Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther are both about an evil thing, colonization, taking something not yours to take and fashioning it to your own needs. But Guardians 2 forms the first part perhaps of Marvel’s anti-colonization trilogy. Ego is the ultimate colonizer, having no purpose in his life other than taking things and making them into more of himself. To this end he’s become the ultimate eugenicist, too. Every time he creates offspring - potential second versions of him, not even people in his eyes - he tests them and if they’re not what he wants he kills them. He’s a slaver (he owns Mantis in every way that matters) a killer, a manipulator, an absolute monster behind a smiling face.
There’s a running theme in GOTG 2 about the evils of treating people as things. The Sovereign do this too - they’re gold in colour, but they’re essentially white supremacists. (The slight satire of them also being basically really hardcore video gamers, who sit behind drones and make mass murder into a competition, was not lost on me either.) And Yondu, Rocket, Gamora and Nebula are all where they are because they were treated as things - slaves, experiments, disposables. The movie explores their traumas, and makes it clear that they’re justified in their rages.
GOTG 2 does with Ego what Infinity War somehow didn’t manage to do with Thanos, and completely and utterly kill the monster at the end of its story. Peter is granted by Ego all the power he could possibly want, as well as the promise of the family he’s always craved. But once he discovers that it’s all built on bones, he rejects it utterly, even at what he thinks is the cost of his own life. Ego’s not given an ounce of mercy or sympathy, not even from Peter, his own son.
Essentially GOTG2 follows almost an identical path to Thor: Ragnarok - a god (alright, demigod in Peter’s case) discovers that the powers granted to him came from a place of evil, and rejects them in favour of something better. Those two films and Black Panther form an epic “dismantle oppressive systems, even if they benefit you” triple-bill.
Good fucking post!!!
Guess who’s DRUNK? And more importantly, GAY?
marvel is disney’s forever cash cow! it appeals to children, teens, and sweaty adults! it’s all quite loud and colorful, with the same safe formula every time, but with different directors and tweaks to make it whatever the fuck memorable each time. plus the reliance on violence to push the plot will give them those dank US military checks until explosions go extinct. truly we live in horrific times but i don’t really care
thank u all for letting me know the military quit cutting checks for the MCU after Avengers because they got offended bc the fictional magic men are an alternative to the american military. i’m sorry i was misinformed but more importantly that’s really, really, really, really, really fucking funny
Just to clarify - the Pentagon pulled out of the Avengers (and thus the MCU) because it wasn’t clear whether SHIELD was a branch of the US government, and, if so, where it fell in relation to the military in terms of hierarchy. (Source)
So, it wasn’t just “magic men are unrealistic”, it was “magic men are unrealistic and we don’t know if we outrank them.”
Being an active participant in fandom requires a certain level of self-regulating in order to be a healthy activity. It requires the ability to say “Not for me,” or “Not today,” and walk away.
We can have conversations about patterns we see in fanworks. We can discuss how we portray characters and relationships, how to effectively convey what we want to in writing, how to sensitively approach representations of marginalized characters. But having those conversations productively requires that we approach each other in good faith, and it requires the ability to self-regulate–including recognizing that often there is no hard line, no black and white answer, and we won’t always come to the same conclusions.
It requires an understanding up front that eliminating all fanworks we don’t care for is not the end goal of these conversations.
I’ll give a personal example. There is a ship that deeply, viscerally upsets me in like 95% of its iterations. I can explain why I don’t like it if asked. I’ve written about why I don’t think it’s handled well in canon.
And if I wanted to–if I wanted to–I could make a very convincing-sounding argument for why that ship is objectively bad and wrong and no one should ship it. Not because that’s objectively right, mind you, but because I’m good at arguing. I could slap that together in like… ten minutes, probably.
I don’t do that. If I vent about it on my own blog, it’s as infrequently as I can manage, because I do my best to avoid the content that upsets me. I don’t seek it out to get riled up about it. I don’t seek out content that upsets me, read it in its entirety, and then leave angry comments and send my friends to harass the author. I don’t choose a high-profile writer for the content I don’t like and engage in a targeted campaign of harassment against them all while claiming to be addressing a general problem.
If you are deliberately seeking out content that you know will upset you and reading it anyway and then feeling that you need to take those bad feelings out on the creator, you are not taking care of yourself. You are not engaging in healthy behavior or productive coping mechanisms. You are not keeping yourself safe, and you are not helping to make fandom safer for others. You are not engaging in good faith.
If you find that you do this and you can’t seem to stop, you may need to take some kind of further steps up to and including taking a break from fandom. I’m serious. I’ve taken breaks myself for that exact reason. There’s no shame in it.
Please monitor your own ability to self-regulate. Please actively evaluate whether or not you are engaging in healthy and productive behavior, for yourself and for others.
If you are deliberately seeking out content that you know will upset you and reading it anyway and then feeling that you need to take those bad feelings out on the creator, you are not taking care of yourself.
He remembered you.
