"Girls can't hip hop!!"

This is what I was told as a kid when people asked what style dance I did. Back before street dance was cool I got interested in watching boy bands dance hip hop or mostly what we see today is now street. I wasn't influenced by being a pretty little girl in pink flying around in a tutu. Don't get me wrong ballet is an amazing dance style just wasn't for me. It was too pretty and precise and I believe dance shouldn't be about rules, restrictions or perfections. Dance is a form of expression but that's a talk for another time. I got bullied by people who said hip hop was for boys because back then not alot of girls were into hip hop. Now that it's become a more recognised culture globally and has become such a respected dance style, I just find it frustrating that these types of people who bullied me for it are now in street crews dancing this dance style, performing after I built my life around hip hop/street.

Despite my past I somehow never seemed to quit doing what I was doing. Sure, I was knocked down ALOT but I WILL NOT stop fighting to be myself.

Moral of this post is don't let people define who you are what you should be.
