BBQ Onion Bombs are a tasty appetizer or main dish that combines the sweet taste of onions with the rich flavors of ground meat, cheese, and barbecue sauce. These treats that are air-fried are great for get-togethers and parties.
Ingredients: 4 large sweet onions. 1 pound ground beef. 1/2 pound ground sausage. 1 cup breadcrumbs. 1/2 cup barbecue sauce. 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. 1/2 cup diced bell peppers. 1/2 cup diced mushrooms. 1 teaspoon garlic powder. 1 teaspoon onion powder. Salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions: Cut off the top and bottom of each sweet onion and remove the outer skin. Carefully hollow out the center of each onion, leaving several layers intact to form a shell. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground sausage, breadcrumbs, barbecue sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, diced bell peppers, diced mushrooms, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stuff each onion with the meat mixture, pressing it firmly into the hollowed-out center. Wrap each stuffed onion in aluminum foil, sealing it tightly. Preheat your air fryer to 375F 190C. Place the wrapped onion bombs in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not touching each other. Cook for 25-30 minutes, or until the onions are tender and the meat is cooked through. Carefully unwrap the onion bombs and place them back in the air fryer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the tops to brown and crisp up. Serve hot, garnished with additional barbecue sauce if desired.
