Rebirth KFRae is sadly rushed and we don't even really get why they like each other besides Wally apparently being one of the first people to talk with her about her self. Really be nice we could actually SEE that development esp with Wally leaving the team next month (which could be why he's rushing it).
However, it thankfully isn't BBR which had very similar but more obnoxious development.
Yeeeeeaah I've already lost interest in live action Titans. I didn't have high expectations for it to begin with for a lot of reasons but once I learned Johns is writing them again and he hinted at Gar also being on the team... and on a team that already has Raven. Yeah no....
Rant below cut.
I already hated how Johns helped regressed Raven's character to that of some snarky magical goth girl and how he shoehorned in that relationship with Gar at the cost of ignoring her NTT development and relationships because he was either trying to draw in cartoon shippers or just because they were his and his wife's favorite characters either way no. It's bad enough already part of the reason I gave up on TTG was because of how they included that ship as a glowing example of everything annoying with it along with romanticized horrible behavior for laughs at the expense of those and other characters' dignity. Now maybe the DCAU TT and DCSHG will go there and how that in general you got fans of that ship wanting to force it down everyone else's throat and insist it's all there is to those characters....
I'm sick of that ship's dynamic and how I have to worry about sitting through it whenever anything Titans related with those characters is made and their many other, closer relationships that have had more development put into are ignored to the point of being ret conned out of existence (HI VIC! HI JOEY! HELL RAVEN HAD A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH JUST ABOUT EVERY PROMINENT NTT CHARACTER WHO WASN'T GAR). I wish I didn't get this way over a stupid ship but then again so far in every incarnation their writing has been awful. Even a version that's tolerable for me will still have the tropes of a played out "opposites attract!!! Type ship I'm bored of regardless and the stink of the annoying shippers and other versions of this ship will still be there.
Besides that ship, there's also the description of it being "dramatic" where it will probably be contrived drama regardless of the romance (remember the Babs/Kory/Dick love triangle scare?) probably like most of Berlanti's other shows and also like those it will probably start out promising then slowly become harder to watch. Not to mention if it is set in the same Flarrow Earth, Arrow already used and screwed up some of the Titans biggest (albeit overused) villains. And last I checked they even killed off Joey and Addie in a goddam tie in novel. And even if he didn't make that ship canon, I didn't care for most of Johns' Teen Titans run for being an obvious, continuity cherry picking fan boy who had his pet characters who Gar was very much one of them, pun very much intended. And how he regressed and screwed over so many other characters like the Wilsons all to varying degrees, Cassie, Pantha &Baby, & many other z-list Titans being turned into Red Shirts. I'm also disappointed they're so far dangerously close to again recreating the 03 cartoon Teen Titans team and will probably shove in Jaime again due to him being a popular character who fills out Vic's roles and they've been trying to get him a show too. Maybe they will add more Titans who don't fit the cartoon/Original 7 NTT mold but also a good chance they'll be in-name-only like again so many other characters in the DC live-action shows. Not to mention how the budget will handle characters like Kory, Raven, and Gar. The New 52 already showed how fans can't handle Gar being any color that isn't green and I'm already counting on him basically looking like a green Hank McCoy and have a Dr. Doolittle twist the again I was surprised how they did J'onn on Supergirl. I hope I'm wrong about most of the things I'm worried about but...not sure at this point. I'll check it out one way or another and the description said "many" so maybe get quite a few more Titans than expected including ones who deserve a chance on TV.
And maybe there will just be a bunch of crack ships and the show will instead ship Dick or Gar with a super minor character from a different DC franchise or a straight up OC. Who wants to take bets?
God I can't believe I'm actually hoping for more faithful or at least interesting characterizations from animated YJ...
Honestly if the next TT movie has Villain!Joey and Canon BBR (JC panel pointed out Gar gets a new love interest next movie &producer hinted "we all know who he's going to end up with later") ...You know what I don't even want to think about that...
Ben Percy: "Some of the soapier elements are starting to rise up between the characters such as the burgeoning relationship between Kid Flash ad Raven"
Me: *tries not to laugh at the hardcore BBR shippers who have been gushing over every scene that has the two standing next to one another and obnoxious BBR fans in general bc I'm awful*
*also worries what BBR fandom will do to poor Wally II who got enough crap for not being Wally I.*
*also not sure how I'll feel about this ship itself even if it turns out really sweet bc like Damian/Raven it involves de-aging Raven and matching her up with the younger successor of her friends / past love interests who she's not allowed to be friends with anymore bc of the pointless de-aging...and probably considering Wally II's parentage there will be a dash of bonding over daddy issues ala JeriRae....idk its comics' tendency to have these "replacement relationships" to fill the voids they made in characters' lives ntm the stupid de-aging that annoys me so much*
*me also hoping there isn't a love triangle with Gar again*
*also wondering what the hell the ages are with Rebirth TT*
CBR: *posts article "15 Ways TT was better than YJ" (cartoons obvs)
Me: Oh this will be good.
CBR: Reason 15 Better Relationships
Me: Oh yeah I can see that...
CBR: " Even her [Miss Martian] relationship with Superboy felt forced and as though it never went beyond physical attraction.....With the exception of Wally West and Artemis, “Young Justice” wasn’t as adept at letting them blossom naturally. Everybody felt like more of a short-term fling, and such relationships lacked any kind of depth or meaning. The same can’t be said for the Titans. Whether it was Robin and Starfire or Beast Boy and Raven’s affectionate bond,"
Me:....not like that.
(Look I wasn't big on MM/SB but saying their whole relationship was only about physical attraction...that's a big disservice to their s1 and even 2 story. Especially when you praise a ship with hardly any build up like Wally/Artemis and a "bond" that wasn't all that affectionate and leave out a complicated ACTUALLY CANON relationship that played an essential part in S2 and the last episode of the series.)
