Riku’s words in the Japanese version: “Sora, I believe in you. You won’t give up.”
Jiminy’s Journal JPN Version: “The 'don't ever give up' [will of] a heart of light, overturned the overwhelming power of darkness."
ENG version: “A heart of light, so long as it retains even the faintest glow, will always rise to banish the darkness, as sure as dawn sweeps away the night.”
“I’ll keep him safe- until he wakes. Forever if I have to.”
“I will tell you what your friend needs right now. It is not your protection. He needs you to believe. You see, Ventus’ heart hangs in the balance. It sleeps in the place between light and darkness. From all I can perceive, that means he will be looking for a friend- one who believes in him to show him the way home.”
“Just as long as you love him...then Ventus will be able to find you when he wakes. He can follow that love back to where he belongs- the realm of light.”
Just as Riku is always the one who protects Sora as he sleeps, Aqua vowed to protect Ven as long as he slept. Yen Sid tells her that it’s not her protection that Ven needs in this moment- he needs her to believe in him. In the Keyblade Graveyard, Riku gave everything he had in him to protect Sora from the demon tide, but in the end, that isn’t what Sora needed to save him. What saved Sora was Riku’s belief in him, and his love guided Sora back to him. We see Sora following a light two times: The first time it leads him to Olympus, where he finds Riku’s heart. The second time it leads him back to the Keyblade Graveyard- the Realm of Light, where Riku is.
