"Certainly not. I don't deal in flattery," Kevin lied, though in this case he just so happened to be sincere in his compliments. She was lovely, and there really was something to her. She stood out, like some sort of silvery specter in this otherwise rather gloomy place. "I'm simply bein' honest. I saw a star, and a star you are."

Perhaps he was laying it on a bit thick, but she didn't seem to be minding that fact. She seemed to be relishing it in fact, and Kevin couldn't blame her for it. If someone so suave and charming as him starting showering him in compliments, Kevin couldn't deny it might get him to blush and even kick his feet and giggle a little.

"I don't doubt that. I'll have to dig them up somehow." Kevin's eyes widened slightly with surprise as he watched her steal the bottle from behind the bar. He could feel the hair on the back of his neck and his arms stand on end, though whether that was excitement pf the building charge wasn't clear. A classy lady who was in movies and she stole?? She was a woman going right after Kevin's heart, and was starting to wonder if he was allowed to make exceptions to his general rule. "I won't tell if you won't," he replied, brows arching slightly at the dust. Wine was supposed to get better with age wasn't it? "I don't know too much about that year, spent all of it being a toddler. Not a very smart age."

❝Well then, you are just a charming man. I'm so pleased to have made your acquaintance❞ She said it with enough sincerity to make a director give a standing ovation, but she really did mean it. A compliment from Carolyn was a rare event, and she tended to mean them. ❝Now where are my manners, I've been chirping at you for how long and I haven't even introduced myself! I'm Carolyn.❞ She would have offered a hand to shake, but she was aware her hand didn't exactly feel human, so she kept it to herself. She was enjoying the conversation too much to give herself away.

She wasn't exactly sure how he'd dig up her films, after all the last time she'd been alive they were only played once in a theater and then never again, but she nodded anyways. Perhaps they were more than one and done these days. ❝If you do find a way to watch them, I must recommend you start with Passage on the Lady Anne, I always thought that one came together so well.❞

A small smirk played upon her lips as she watched his reaction to her stealing the bottle. She did like to surprise, no matter that it wasn't truly stealing because no one would ever notice it was gone. She procured two glasses as well, thankfully stored upside down by whoever had last bartended, and filled both with the wine. Carolyn slid one over to her companion and then picked hers up, swirling the liquid around. Oh she wished she could actually drink it.

The mention of him being a toddler in 1939 made her grimace momentarily. Oh god, she was old wasn't she. Perhaps the perk of being dead was that she stayed frozen at 26. ❝It's probably good you don't remember. Other than some marvelous films, some horrid things happened. Especially here.❞

Carolyn shoots a dirty look at the stranger before very forcefully dusting herself off. In truth it didn't even hurt all that bad, but she still has a tendency to be, well, a diva.

She huffs before readjusting her attitude. She usually tried her best to be nice, she had a reputation to upkeep after all, but she did have a nasty temper on her. Thankfully the joke he cracks about tripping does get a little laugh out of her. ❝I'm fine, no hard feelings.❞ She said, giving him her award wining (literally) grin. ❝Sorry about all that, I have a tendency to be a little dramatic sometimes.❞ More like all the time. ❝I think you'd better hang onto that case a little tighter, though.❞

It's the music that draws Carolyn over to the stranger, an old, familiar tune that she hasn't heard in quite a while. The former starlet tends to avoid relics of her past these days. It turns out immortality gets much harder if you can't let go of the past. Even so, the draw of nostalgia is a powerful on.

❝Oh no need to explain, it's a wonderful song. I'm glad people are still enjoying it.❞ She muses, taking in the tune again. She always did like Cole Porter. He had even scored one of her films back in the day, and what a marvelous film is was. A frown flickers across her face momentarily as her thoughts stray too close to her lost glory days, but she steers them back to the song itself. ❝Have you seen the musical? It's a marvelous show.❞

The strangers continued thoughts gather a chuckle from Carolyn. ❝Well I can hardly blame them, progress was going very fast. It was enough to make your head spin sometimes.❞ She pauses, realizing her choice of words was perhaps a bit odd. ❝I mean, if you look at the history of the time. I can only assume what it was like.❞ She gives another laugh at his apology, waving it off with a smile. ❝Oh don't apologize, dear, I appreciate good chatter. And you're correct, humanity does cycle ever so often. I suppose you just can't change the core of humanity.❞

The mirrors in this hotel were a cruel joke. Once a beacon for showbiz as it had been, the Hollywood Tower Hotel provided ample mirrors on each floor, allowing the elite of Hollywood to preen themselves as they so loved. Now it was an empty, damned place, but the mirrors remained to taunt the ghostly inhabitants.

Carolyn avoided the mirrors by principal, but every so often they drew her to them, like a moth to a flame. The reflection was barely visible, a dim figure swathed in blue light. Upon first glance the figure in the mirror looked corpse-like, but if one looked closer they could make out the heavy lidded eyes and painted lips that once made the starlet so famous.

She ran a hand over her cheek, examining the face as best she could in the dusty reflection. Long ago, she had been desperate to retain her youth, having seen how the industry tossed aside actresses who showed even a wrinkle. If only her beauty could be bottled, locked up tight forever where it couldn't leave her with the passing years.

And here she was, 80 years on with not a wrinkle in sight, preserved in perfect form for all eternity. It was horribly ironic. She wondered silently if her fate was some kind of karmic punishment for her vanity. If it was, it would be relieving in a way. A reason, a fault, an explanation for the horrors she had been subject to. But she knew damn well that there was no explanation, and that her everlasting beauty was as useless as trying to find a way out of this hell. She slammed a fist into the mirror, enraged by her own reflection, but her fist failed to make contact with the mirror, effortlessly slipping right through the thing instead of shattering it. The anger melted to frustration and then to agony.

She slipped to the floor. And she sobbed.

I like the posters in the tower of terror gift shop but they always stand out to me as very modern art styles so i wanted to try my hand at making a poster that's based in 1930s art! I also wanted to have carolyn in a pretty red dress like the posters but since strapless dresses we're super popular yet i went for this halter gown based on one seen in The Women (1939)

plus a changing portrait variety because haunted mansion shouldn't get all the fun

Kevin didn't know, but he nodded anyway since that seemed like the polite thing to do. And well, she seemed sweet, so he figured he ought to be nice to her...at least for as long as she remained amusing. Besides, it was nice to have someone sound so very interested in him and what he was up to. To actually be prompted to talk about himself instead of just doing it anyway no matter the topic of conversation.

"I do a bit of everything," Kevin said with a slight tilt of his head. He'd never really put himself into any sort of category. He was a performer! Whatever it is that meant he would be it! Anything to get a little bit of spotlight, though if he had his way he'd have all of it. "I handle a crowd like a master, but I s'pose I've never really settled on an act...well, besides the one I'm in, but I'm more promoter than performer."

❝Wowza, a renaissance man, huh? That's impressive! I can sing and play flute but that's about it for me. Oh! And I bake, but ya can't really put that in an act.❞ Dottie looked off into the distance for a minute as if trying to figure out how she could add baking into her act before snapping back to attention. She'd have to check in with her sisters on whether that would work or not.

❝Well if ya need any help narrowin' it down, I can lend you my two cents! Keepin' an act simple helps. You know what they say, jack of all trades master of one. Or wait- is it none?❞ She paused again, trying to remember how that saying went. She wasn't the best at sayings. She shook her head and just continued ❝Maybe you can get your own act goin' alongside the one you're currently in!❞
