BCYLM - Gusu University
An exploration of Gusu University, its Layout and Services from my FF “Because you loved me”
-----
Gusu University owns eight smaller buildings, each occupying a different academic program, two department Buildings, and one main Building, with lush park areas in between. A floating arc-rooftop connects the eight smaller buildings with each other.
The University Compound owns two parking lots. On the left side of the entrance the bigger parking lot for the students. Four upper level floors, eight underground floors. A modern building planted with different greens.
On the right side of the entrance resides the smaller parking lot for the residents, situated behind the hill separating the two areas.
Four modern buildings are arranged neatly in a large U with penthouses on top of each. The penthouses are reserved for Lan Family members, currently occupied by Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen, each of them living in their own respective homes. Their parents, happily married, live in one of the middle penthouses, and their uncle with his wife take the last penthouse.
A large park like garden with a beautifully ornamented round fountain in the middle, leads the way between the entrance and the main University building holding a supermarket, 2 cafeterias, 2 huge dining halls, three lounges and a bakery on the ground floor. The second floor holds several soundproof rooms in varying sizes the students can rent. The third and fourth floor holds the offices of the Professors and Assistant Teachers. The fifth floor occupies the Principals Office as well as a large contemporary rooftop garden which is more than often used as a beautiful venue for night events.
Whilst the interior of all Buildings are held in the white and blue Lan Colours, the Lobby of the main building is held in earthy tones, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Behind the main building is another small park area with many different sitting areas, pagodas and Pavilions. On the west and north side of the park are large modern buildings. Its glass front almost mirroring the park, creating an illusion of endless greenery. Behind them, build as a large arc embracing the two Departments, are various smaller buildings, all connected by one rooftop garden.
On the east side sits a small hill with Tea Houses on its top and a small waterfall rushing down at its side pooling in a silent river at its food. A beautiful bridge with cloud patterns on its railings lead over the river. Grand and wide stairs lead up to the top.
I have drawn a sketch of a Layout so it’s easier to imagine:
Services:
All students are able to reserve their parking lot in advance through the intern online program of the University. The system was established to ensure a stressfree morning without searching for a place to park the car.
There are also options to rent a parking lot for the duration of a week up to one semester.
All rooms of the second floor of the main building, as well as its rooftop garden and the Teahouses located on the hill can be booked in advance. Once the booking is confirmed the student(s) will receive a 6 digit code to unlock the door. All of those areas are available 24/7.
Situated on the second floor of the Department Building I is a Gym. Two rooms on the left side of the entrance offer different sport classes, including Yoga, Dance, Zumba and so forth.
The whole area of the third floor spans an indoor pool. The pool is usually open (also 24/7) but it can also get reserved should a student want to not get disturbed by someone else.
(There are rumours in Gusu University that Lan Wangji apparently had used this option quite often. No one had seen him entering or leaving the building, though)
Gusu University - Cultivation Options:
Classes are held on weekends and holiday breaks - in order to not disturb the students non-cultivation curriculum.
All classes are intermediate to master level. There are no official teachers. Elders or highly accomplished Cultivators are sharing their knowledge and wisdom. Some classes are held by monks who usually live in hidden monasteries.
Most of the people who teach there travel to Gusu University just for this exchange.
Information of the content of the lecture or class and the Teacher will be announced weeks before and students need to reserve their place in the class at least 3 days before it is to start.
The registration is only available on the Underground Reception Area, and only on paper. There is no online service in order to keep the facility hidden from the government.
There are two rooms for Sword Training, one room for Sword Duels. Two Rooms for Archery. All of those five rooms are charmed to look like an outside area.
There are 15 different sized study rooms and 5 rooms for musical cultivation. All of them soundproof.
5 Rooms for Talisman Training. Also imitating an outside area and current weather conditions (if needed. Since it will make a difference if one tries to conjure a Talisman in rain and in sunshine. A fire Talisman in rain, as an example.) The Talisman Training Rooms are explosion proof. (One wouldn’t think how often those happen…)
During the week students are free to use any of the rooms for their personal cultivation studies or trainings.
The whole underground area can be entered through a secret entrance on top of the hill. It looks like a bare part of a mountain (maybe imagine it like the entrance to the cold pond cave in Untamed). The location also ensures the students are not seen ‘disappearing’ by anyone who is not aware of Cultivation.
Only Cultivators can enter, and only if they posses the permit to do so. The area is warded with several layers against intruders.
