Calum Worthy at the “An Inconvenient Sequel” Premiere

Donald Trump has pulled out of the Paris Agreement, an action that has beencalled utterly delusional, deeply cynical, and profoundly ignorant. Probably all three. For climate activists who stood against Trump throughout his entire campaign, it’s not surprising, but that doesn’t make it any easier to stomach.
This shit has real consequences.
In this cycle of bad news that just got worse, it means a lot to have a powerful, positive news story to follow. Enter the group of youth that is suing the US federal government. Both industry lobbyists and the Trump administration have appealed the lawsuit extensively. They have been repeatedly denied. They will go to trial.
Odds are they lose.
“The state of the planet is unraveling all around us because of our addiction to fossil fuels,” Xiuhtezcatl Martinez said at the steps of the US Supreme Court this week. “For the last several decades, we have been neglecting the fact that this is the only planet that we have and that the main stakeholders in this issue of climate change are the younger generation. Not only are the youth going to be inheriting every problem that we see in the world today—after our politicians have been long gone—but our voices have been neglected from the conversation.”
“Our politicians are no longer representing our voices.”
So, what's a voiceless kid to do? How about sue President Donald Trump and his administration—and then march to the White House?

What is happening in Texas and other parts of the world is awful and terrifying. This is our future if something doesn't change. And it is because of what we are doing to the planet. Please have this in consideration in all your future choices
I usually shy away and refuse to really engage in world issues, maybe because I’ve always felt it was beyond me. What can knowing about the troubles of the world really add to my life other than more sadness and hopelessness for the human race? You could say I’m just selfish. How can I worry about other people’s problems when I haven’t even sorted myself out?
Well I guess this ignorance has finally hit home. It took the release of An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, a whole 11 years later, for me to finally watch An Inconvenient Truth, aka that Al Gore film about global warming. And now I want to do something. I’ve never been terrible at being eco-friendly. I’m not a huge consumer of anything. I don’t buy a lot, nor do I throw a lot away. I generally don’t litter, unless I know the rubbish is bio-degradable. I recycle whenever I can. But I can do more. This is me being selfish. I want clean air. I want to visit Antarctica one day and still see ice there. I want to be able to ski in winter and swim safely in the ocean in summer. I don’t want to die from a hurricane or a heatwave or flooding or draught. I want more animals to survive because I like looking at them. I want to keep Earth livable because I live here. I’ve never been terrible at being eco-friendly. But I can do more. We have no recycling system at work, so I’m going to start taking the empty bottles and cans home so I can recycle them myself. I’m going to bring my coffee tumbler with me everywhere from now on so I never have to use a takeaway cup when I decide to have a coffee. And I recommend everyone who’s reading this to watch An Inconvenient Truth, you can find it easily online or get it out for free from the city library, then go watch An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power in cinemas now. That’s a start. I can do more.
See it, live it, share it.
