Tales of a Writer for all creators out there
The journey of a writer is defenitly hard, and it gets even harder when you are misunderstood, but isn't that the magic?
"One thing that I tell people is ... if you're going to do anything new or innovative, you have to be willing to be misunderstood." Jeff Bezos once said and its true. The most succesful people are misunderstood, because a sheep cannot live the world of a wolf.
As an artist, be it muzician, painter, designer, writer... The critiques will come, and ohhhhh... How harsh they will be, but everyone has their opinion, that's why each human is individual and unique. You cannot force someone to understand something... Especially when they are uneducated and limited into reading between the lines... And that applies especially to the ones that write. Its hard to make someone understand your story/novel when they look only forward and never to the left and right.
I got my own harsh critiques, especially since I am only at the start of this journey, of being a novelist.
One thing that people should understand about writers, is that what they write doesn't reflect their absolut opinion on certain topics.
If I write gruesome murder, can I be accused of supporting such gruesome acts?
If a character in a story is racist, can we say that the writer is racist too?
If someone from the novel doesn't like sushi, the writer is absolutly against this dish?
If we really do think like this, then we can accuse horror movie creators of supporting killing and torturing? Probably not.
Lets take five minutes to reflect on this topic, shall we?
Lets make the difference between reality and fiction. Lets not be so overly sensitive and subjective. If a certain book/movie is thriller/horror and has the tag 16+ or 18+ with the specific warnings, then you can be sure the plot won't be about rainbows and sunshine scenes.
For all writers out there, continue to writea and don't let destructive critiques stop you from creating. Take the productive critiques and improve yourself, but never let the destructive ones stop you from doing what you are passionate about.
You cannot please everyone, for I am sure you are not an ass-kisser... And I am also pretty sure our lips weren't created to be attached to someone ring of muscels, if you catch my drift... Unless you are into that.... No kink-shaming here.
"If you cannot afford to be misunderstood, then for goodness' sake, don't do anything new or innovative." Also said Jeff Bezos.
