Shelly joined the collection some summers ago and was adopted from a beach-side souvenir shop in North Carolina. Because of her blank face, Shelly is both blind and mute, and uses sign language to communicate with others in the collection. Her best friends are happy to interpret this to help her communicate with those who haven’t learned to understand ASL. The pearl she holds is very important to her and acts as a comfort object when she gets overwhelmed in situations where it gets too loud for her more sensitive hearing. While she’s made of sand, her body is covered in a protective lacquer coating that prevents her from crumbling on land or falling apart in water. Shelly’s favorite hobby is dancing.
