Light the beacons - chapter 6: Company and life
Story summary
The ancient beacons had failed. Without their light, beaming into the sky, undead crawled out from the deepest crevices and dared venture out in daylight to terrorize the people. Panic set in, and a solution had to be found.
The beacons must be lit again. Wels, a knight who recently returned to service, took the job onto himself. The journey, however, would be more taxing than he could have ever anticipated.
Excerpt
Behind the town loomed the beacon. From stories Wels had heard, the beacon was created from pure light in a way that resembled iron, but looked more celestial. They were built to resemble pyramids, with steps on all four sides to allow easy access to the top, where the beacon’s light beamed up into the sky. This beacon, too, was covered in this dark moss.
As Wels stared at the foul scene, the wound in his shoulder acted up.
“Wels?” Pearl stood next to him. She wasn’t only checking in to see if he was alright, but also to ask what he was thinking about.
“This isn’t good.” Wels slowly shook his head. His gaze was still on the beacon as welled up within him. “This shouldn’t… none of this should have happened. This should not have happened.”
His resolve to fix the beacon had only grown with this sight.
