One of the huge Chinese beaded chandeliers, ornate with seven-color tassels. This chandelier is assembled with exquisite skill from more than 400 thousand glass beads. The strings of colored ribbons are decorated with peony and butterfly patterns.
Total height is about 4 meters, 2.10 meters in diameter, weight is 127.5 kilograms. It is made in 1918 in Dongyang and entered into history as “The First Lantern of China”. Like many Chinese art pieces, the chandelier has a name (as complicated as the device itself), “寶蓋索絡聯三聚七彩穗羊角燈”.
Exhibited every four years for a few days in Lu family ancestral shrine (東陽盧宅), Dongyang, Zhejiang.
