On 07/12 I went to Make & Mend in Somerville, a second hand craft store and scored these beads! This is my second beaded design.

I finished it yesterday, 14/12.

I can’t wait to share more projects I do on this blog. I won’t be posting everything. Just what I can remember. My whole life is filled with creativity. Too much too write it all.

Made this beaded puffin patch for a friends birthday. It’s not my best work at all. The bead holes are too small for even my slimiest needle so that made it a little frustrating. I did get to try finishing this patch differently than normal. I put fabric glue on the back and glued it to another piece of canvas to seal all the threads and edges to avoid fraying.(10/10) but the patch itself isn’t very attractive.

Important lessons learned so far about making sequined/beaded patches:

Save the purl/billion/couched goldwork outline for the end so it shows up better

Smaller seed beads are MUCH better for filling in the little gaps. Like, don’t bother buying anything larger than 11/0, and 15/0 or 14/0 is best.

It’s well worth the time to coat the back in Fray Check and let it dry overnight before cutting it out. It keeps any threads you accidentally snip while cutting out the patch firm enough to not instantly unravel.

Theories I have yet to test:

Using a firmer felt is better.
