Debut: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (+ Bowser’s Minions?)
Now this one is a little bit of a doozy! A few weeks ago we talked about Mecha-Chomp, and how unfortunate it is that the remake of Superstar Saga retconned out a Weird Mario Enemy, but apparently, when we had our back turned, it retconned one in as well!
While in the original game, these were treated as just some weird, alternate form of the traditional Boomerang Bro., in the remake, they are given a new name entirely! They are now Beanerang Bros.!
Beanerang Bros. aren’t the only Slightly Weirder Versions of Regular Mario Enemies that live in the Beanbean Kingdom, however! Here are Troopea and Lakipea, which had those names even in the regular game! I guess they just changed Beanerang Bro. for consistency!
Though, that makes me question the nature of the Troopeas and pals. Are these weirdly turtle-shaped legumes? Or are these turtles with a weird symbiotic relationship with plants? Could the plants be parasitic?! It wouldn’t be the only example of parasitism in these games! Though, we may be getting ahead of ourselves there, because the Fawful enemies easily deserve their own post. When they get weird...
