Since I'm still obsessed with this... after analyzing Shootout for the thousandth time, I've noticed that Starsky typically reaches out for Hutch when he's in pain. However, Hutch has only explicitly reached for Starsky for comfort during the hug in Gillian (and to some extent, the hug in the Fix, both emotionally charged moments rather than physical). Otherwise, Hutch seems to provide touch to comfort other people rather than himself. Does this mean he's bad at asking and that's why Starsky's go-to thing in dire situations is cuddling??? Does Starsky just assume bc he wants that then Hutch does??? Much to discuss

Thinking back on it, Hutch is the one to mostly initiate playfulness in their dynamic. I mean, look at Satan's Witches. He has so many fun ways to engage with Starsky

But then I tried to think of all the times Starsky initiated playfulness, and all my brain could come up with is him smacking Hutch on the ass

Having read nearly all the fic of Starsky and Hutch I can find (love the enduring fandom!), I do enjoy the dynamic of Hutch being in love with Starsky for a real long time, but accepting it'll never go to a romantic/sexual level because Starsky's Straight(tm)

Meanwhile, Starsky has been in love with Hutch for probably longer, but just brushes it off as 'that's because it's Hutch'. Zero self awareness.
