what do u like most about the modern medieval album? the lyrics, melodies, relatability, general vibes etc?

Oh! I've liked Something for Kate for ages - my first album of theirs I heard and clicked with was Leave Your Soul To Science back in 2012, their last major release (side note, best song on that one is This Economy). When I like music artists I kind of get a little crazy on it on account of my Hyperfixating Nature, so I do have a lot of opinions on this band and this album.

Paul Dempsey (who, another side note, has his own solo stuff as well that's insanely good. I think I might like it more than the main SFK stuff he does?) writes extremely fascinating lyrics. They're complex and, much like a lot of the music I like, uh... pretty morose. I like to listen to music that puts me in mind of a specific kind of emotion or story, and when I listen to a SFK song I get that. It rules. I feel like I can imagine a really miserable animatic to these, haha.

To a degree it reminds me of how I feel when I listen to The Mountain Goats, but mostly in the idea of telling a story in metaphor rather than anything else. Conceiving a snapshot of a moment or person or idea and then breaking it down through lyrics. The Modern Medieval has a few really cool ones for that - I'd probably say Come Back Before I Come Back To My Senses and Our Extinguished Colleague are my favourites.

In addition to all that Paul Dempsey's voice kicks ass and the instrumentation also kicks ass. Paul Dempsey's not known outside of Australia but here he's fairly renowned for his lyricism and voice, at least in alternative circles.

I hope that made sense all together! I could say more but I should probably cut myself off before this turns into some kind of novel.

hey can i just say, it's nice to see how much effort you put only into the background characters in your stories? more often than i'd like i see duck artists take the easy way out and make everyone into a simple dog nose, but there's always so much variety in your comics! like the latest one, there was a bore, a beaver, i think i saw a bull in there?it's clear that you put a lot of thought into them. your work is amazing, i'd love to read it officially published someday!!

Thank you! I’ve been trying to improve on that and honestly I have found the best way to defeat the ‘urgghhhh ohhh maaaan why are there so many background characterssss’ feeling is to make them look like they have their own story! Like oh hey I wonder where this dude is going, where did they get that bike, how difficult is it to find nicely tailored pants that accommodate a beaver tail etc. etc.
