@studiousbotanist DUDE YEAH!!!!! "padding across the floor" is one of my favorites because it really clearly invokes the sound of bare feet or socks on a hard surface imo. EXTREMELY useful. smirking/sighing/gasping i don't have anything against either, like i Do get the idea of overusing it—generally you only need to describe that kind of thing once, and then describe when it changes, but a reader will usually assume something like an expression or tone will persist until stated otherwise. but they're still super useful!!!!
