my first teddy bear !! i’ve been wanting to make one for years and i finally did it :-)

he’s fully jointed with steiff schulte mohair and glass eyes. i sewed a ruff and made pom poms to clown him up 🤡💖

i’m still not sure what to name him, maybe vincent? ideas welcome! 🧸

So here's how she turned out. I'd like to experiment with the pattern a bit more, but I've run out of glass eyes so will have to wait till the ones I've orderd arrive. Working with mohair fabric can seem quite daunting to someone who's never tried it before but it's not! I remember having to work up my courage to attempt the first bear I ever made (I'd had a pattern and some mohair fabric for months before I finally decided to throw caution to the wind and just give it a go), and boy, did I ever kick myself in the butt for not trying it sooner! Piece of cake and so much fun too!! Hope you'll find yourself itching to learn and do new things this coming year! The little bear is finally done and I'm ready to begin uploading all the photos I took of the making process, editing them all and then writing the instructions for the pattern tutorial. These babies (kitty and bear) measure about 6 inches tall and are entirely hand sewn using mohair fabric. I'll include a link for the fabric and glass teddy eyes in the supplies list so you can find them easily. Day 3 of #marchmeetthemaker is beliefs and values 🤩 One of my beliefs is that we all have a responsibility for the future of the planet. I do my best to make sure that my packaging is recyclable or reusable. The only plastic that I do use is packing materials salvaged from @colourstreambrighton’s recycling bin, with the aim to give it another life before it is eventually recycled. 📦📦📦 Something I am currently working on is finding a new toy stuffing to use for the bears that is better for the environment. (If you guys have any suggestions please do let me know!) What do you guys think? Do you prefer this little face or the one in my last post? Mainly the difference (other than the type of mohair used and larger eyes) is the shape of the snout. This one's short and stubby vs the slightly longer, pointier snout of the previous bear.
