BEASTS FURY SCAM: Be Educated

Today, @beastsfury​ and @beastsfuryupate​ closed down their website and social media accounts, after 5 years of excuses & not paying their Voiceover Artists OR their animators. Even as I write this, they have been removing their posts and hiding accounts until only screenshot evidence remains of what they posted.

The owner, Ryhan Stevens, ran THREE SEPARATE Kickstarters/Fund Raisers (one for the main project, and a “needs more money!” future fundraiser):

2 of them met their goals, and yet ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE CONTENT CREATORS GOT PAID.

Things like this happen time and time again. People forget, scammers repeat their process. They continue to make money. DON'T FALL FOR IT.

People who I personally know provided work on this and were not paid include @danielle-mcrae and @pmseymourva​, but there are MANY others affected who I don’t know offhand. They ranged from voiceover artists, to casting directors, to animators, to coders.

Let me reiterate for you: this project got DOUBLE its original asking price (almost $75,000 total) and yet could not find the resources to pay any of its contributors AFTER FIVE YEARS.

Read the KS page. Remember the names of those heading the project. Educate yourself. DO NOT SUPPORT SCAMMERS' PROJECTS BLINDLY.

For those of you who Kickstart/GoFundMe/IndieGogo, remember that not all projects/artists are to be trusted. Do your research and find out what they did in the past, how much they got, and if their promises and goals were completed. Support with confidence, not with blind hope.

My sincerest apologies to everyone I know who was involved with this project that got affected by the callous behavior that led to this series of events.

UPDATE (4:15 PM): Providing some clarification/correction to info I posted on Twitter, I found out from reliable sources that Egoraptor and Maximilian did not get far enough as to record VO for the game, so they wouldn’t have been paid anyway.

However, it should be noted that they WEREN’T OFFERED MONEY TO BEGIN WITH, ONLY A STAKE IN THE PROJECT. Meaning that Ryhan somehow found the funds to pay himself + his closest buddies, but couldn’t even offer $ for the celebrity VO.

Beast's Fury is a beautiful 2D fighting game inspired by Skullgirls and Street Fighter with anthropomorphic characters and some fantastic hand drawn animation.

This build is still VERY early in development, so the fighting systems are a little basic at the moment, but the real allure of Beast's Fury is it's aesthetics, with smooth hand drawn animations, interesting characters, and awesome soundtrack.  The full game will not only involve action, but also feature engaging story lines, conveyed through some beautiful hand drawn cut scenes.

Beast's Fury will feature a selection of interesting animal themed characters, such as a cyber-raptor and a boxing horse, while the Pre-Alpha Demo lets you play as a shark in a suit and a cat man.  

The character animation is a painstaking process but having successfully completed a Kickstarter campaign, development has now been able to kick up a gear so we can look forward to be seeing more of this gorgeous 2D fighter in the future.  Beautifully animated fists of furry.

“8 days ago We’ve had a large influx of questions concerning the new Kickstarter and wanted to be as transparent as possible with all of our past and future fans and contributors. So, here’s an FAQ that hopefully answers them and clears up any confusion. You guys had the indiegogo and raised 21,000 USD; what happened to that money? To put it simply, we approximated our funding for animations incorrectly and unfortunately wound up spending most of our money on one character’s animations after both re-timings and revisions. Vincent was initially animated at 24 Frames Per Second instead of the the 30 Frames Per Second that we decided we wanted for the game (The game is set to run at 60 FPS). Remaining funds were spent on Don’s rough animations, five thousand dollars were spent there, as well as money being used to pay Indiegogo Fees as well as paying the clean up, shading, and other animators who were working on Vincent. We undercut the animation costs by mistake due to being an amateur game making studio, and for this, we apologize to all of the fans. There isn’t a reward tier for buying the game this time around, why is that? There isn’t one because we’re not offering a full game this time around. We’re actually focusing merely on cutting production time down so we stop stagnating the game’s release. We’re trying to get a finished demo post EVOLUTION 2014 to be able to show off at future fighting game events, and without the funding we’re going to take even longer. So we’re focusing solely on this demo release. However, people who donated to THIS campaign will still receive what they donated for. But wait, you ran an Indiegogo campaign and still have little to show for it. What gives? As said, we made mistakes early on and it cost us time, money, resources and valuable team members. As a result, we’re trying our best to do what we can with what we have, but additional funding is needed to finally finish everything off. We’re a passion project, comprised of random people who had some skills that, when put together, could make a video game. Ultimately we have nothing but the interest of the fans and the interest of game development in mind. However, as said, we make mistakes and learn and grow.  Also: here’s the progress we DID make with these funds: - Finished the background animation for the 1st level - Nearly completing all of Vincent’s animation (went from 25% complete before the IGG campaign to 90% after) - Completed all of Don’s (shark) rough’s. His lineart is about 30% done.”

A hand drawn 2D fighter that uses anthro characters ? Hell yeah! It's like the spiritual successor to bloody roar ! I think it has a lot of potential and it's shaping out quite well.
