The doctor had just made their rounds into her room, informing her that they weren’t quite sure when she’d be able to be sent home which only cause Bea more frustration. Yeah, maybe it was her fault that she was in here, but they also hadn’t expected the little rescue mission to go as bad as it had. Her eyes were currently focused on the window, watching outside as it was currently raining. When she heard the door open again, she sighed. “If you’re here to give me your pity, I’ve heard enough. So just go.” She frowned at her owns words, but it was true. She hated that everyone was feeling bad for her, well that or probably thinking she’s crazy for what they did. She turned to look at the other almost immediately. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that.”

It had been a few days now since the fire happened, and while Bea’s breathing had been returned to normal, she wasn’t in much better shape than when she came in here. However, one thing was different, she was finally waking up. A quiet groan escaped their lips, their body shifting in the bed only to release a grunt quickly after. They couldn’t yet remember what had happened, but she knew her whole body ached. “Where-” she croaked out, cutting herself off as she heard herself. She sounded terrible, she felt terrible, which led her mind to know exactly where she was. Well, that and the annoying beeping coming from the monitor beside her. They turned their head just slightly to look at it, but instead caught glimpse of the other in the room. “Hey,” she said weakly.
Bea’s schedule had been crazy lately, though her hours were still around the same part of the day, they had been much longer and practically everyday for the past few months. Today was one of the few days she had gotten off and while the better option seemed to be to stay at home, relaxing at home wasn’t something they were very good at. So instead, they had decided to take Dixie out for a much needed walk around the town. It was also just an excuse to not stay home. Dixie also always had too much energy, so they were sure she needed it. They were walking down the main road when Dixie seemed to get excited and started tugging on the lead, a little too hard, causing Bea to stumble forward and barely miss running into someone at the corner. “I am so sorry.” she said quickly as she regained her balance. “I think all the smells are exciting her.”
“Absolute nightmare,” Beatriz mumbled quietly as she finally clocked off from her long shift. She loved her job, but sometimes it felt like the day was never going to end. This was definitely one of them. Walking out of the room, she nearly stumbled into someone. “Oh, my apologies. Do you need help finding something? Or someone?” She asked, cursing herself silently. Of course even while she was off the clock, she always tried helping. Probably why they always had her on call.

“I know you were gonna meet me at my place, but I really wanted some ice cream, so I had to come by.” Bea knew that there was a whole plan to this date thing, but would it be a huge issue if she changed things just a little bit? Besides, it wasn’t a real date, right? Just part of a little competition they had. Sure, she’d probably treat it like an actual date but she couldn’t be sure that Charlie had the same feelings. Besides, was she really ready to even date someone right now? “Saved you a little bit of time. Unless of course you want to pick me up there. Then I’ll grab ice cream and dip.”

Beatriz was only slightly regretting agreeing to work the dunk tank. The one plus so far is that it was a great refresher to the sun blazing down on them. Also, it was raising a lot of money. There was just something exciting about hitting a target and watching someone fall into a huge tank of water. “Switch out for five?” She asked the other worker who was handing out the balls to throw. After agreeing, Bea got out of the tank, grabbing a towel to pat dry some of her hair before tossing a set of balls to the next person in line. “Tell you what, if you don’t get him out with these three, I’ll give you another three, my treat.” She’d be sure to pay out of her own pocket for the turn, but she wanted the kids to have fun. “And even if you do, I’ll let you go again just to watch him fall again.” She said, taking a step back as the kid smiled and began their turn. She watched for a moment before catching view of a familiar face standing nearby. “Gonna test your aim and try to dunk someone?” Bea asked as she stepped over to Charlie, keeping her eyes on the kids.
t had happened seven times now, and anyone would probably think that after six other times, Bea would be over the thrill of finally seeing her arm again, but here she was. After getting their cast off earlier that day, Bea had decided to treat herself to some ice cream and was currently sitting at one of the tables at Fortiers, flexing and stretching her fingers, arm, and wrist out. “Not going to lie, I was starting to feel like I’d never get that thing off,” she said aloud, glancing over to the person sitting with her. “Going to be nice to finally be off paperwork duty,” she added, trying not to sound bored all over again with the idea of it. She was ready to be back in action.
