My very expert dissection of the Sofia the First Royal Magic theme song

*coming a day late because I had to finish an essay but I never finished it in time so here we are anyway :)

So for the song:

What in the beat drop and booming base remix vibes? ...I love it!

It's gonna take me a bit before I can recite it on command without mixing in the old lyrics but I think they changed them just the perfect amount.

They kept the village part which makes me hope we still get to explore more of her trying to figure things out after growing up differently. (I also hope and dream for more villager Sofia flashbacks but only time will tell)

"Now I gotta figure out how to get it right with my whole family" "Learning new powers for all my friends to see" my girl is finally getting to be more open about her magic I'm so happy for her!!! Also I can't wait to see everything she learns past what we've seen in the little clips. I also wonder if the whole get it right with my whole family part means she goes through magical mishaps at home after getting trapped in the amulet similar to what Elena went through in the beginning with her sceptre?

I have to say I LOVE the "Sofia the First!" part in the theme song. Idk it's just so satisfying (especially the first one)

Overall, I feel like the song is a great new rendition for the new show and I can't wait to see what other songs will be coming out!!

Also the unicorn is giving Swift Wind from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power but I hope it's not the same case in personality lol.

Cool to know that they had teleported in that teaser scene lol. Cedric, when the hell did you learn to do that? Either he was holding back on us or Sofia somehow taught him a spell he didn't know? Or is this like a whole new magical innovation?

Additionally, the title list the first soundtrack release is out so let's speculate!

A lot of these seem to plays on old titles like (I might also be over analyzing it them in that way lol) or like they could have similar vibes/lessons once we hear them. "Time to Shine" and "Rise and Shine" or "The Most Magical Me" and "A Better Me" or "Let's Play All Day" and "You've Gotta Have Fun"

Again, probably reading too much into this but for sure I'm going to love them all and I hope they'll have a variety of characters joining in with the tunes.

Either way, I should probably attempt one more to finish that essay (hopefully I won't lose too many more late marks oops) but I'm actually SO EXCITED FOR THIS SHOW IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNYYYYY

Undertale / Deltarune fans should check out Stray Children

If you know anything about Toby Fox's inspirations, you know he wears his inspirations on his sleeve. One of those inspirations is Moon: Remix RPG. The people who made that, are pretty much making an Undertale-Like* directly because of Toby himself. The trailer for that game, releasing Oct 30th, is what I've embedded here.

*a game where combat is turn based, you can talk to enemies or beat them up, and dodge their attacks.

There's a bit of history between Toby Fox and Yoshiro Kimura now, if you want to learn more about that I've put it beneath the read more.

Before I get into Moon specifically, I want to get into what I call the "Big Six" inspirations. (Image Source)

(you don't need to read this right now for this post to make sense)

This is from the 5th anniversary, and lists some of the inspirations for Undertale. The main 6 are so prominent that they're present in pretty much all of Toby's works, including Deltarune.

The Mother series impacts the writing all the time, to the point that some of Lancer's lines are just directly from the games. "I'm a tough boy, treat me like one of your items" is just a line from the Escape Mouse item in Earthbound.

Dodging enemy attacks? Everyone say thank you to the Touhou series. Fun Events in Undertale and that secret gumball 1225 room in Deltarune? That's directly inspired by Yume Nikki. (Kris Image Source)

Brandish is through the entire series at this point. The style of shops are directly from the game. The Chapter 1 closet fall of Deltarune used the intro of Brandish (where the two main characters fall into The RUINS and must defeat the King Of The Monsters to escape) as reference. You ever wondered why GLACEIR is misspelled in the Chapters3+4 soundtrack? Also Brandish. Susie's signature attack is called "Rude Buster" because Brandish has a sword called "Planet Buster" and Toby likes referencing things from Brandish.

Why Toriel is white? That's right: Cave Story

But I'm not here to talk about them, I just wanted to emphasize how important to the series all of these are. Moon is no exception. Deconstruction of the genre? LOVE? Sparing enemies? You know, the entire crux of the game? That's all Moon, baby. (Other games do quite a bit of deconstruction too but this one goes the whole mile)

I'm not going to go over the game's specifics here, if you want that Dorked ( @megaderping ) has both an amazing video about it and her own playthrough uploaded on YouTube. But to sum up: It's an "anti-RPG" where you save monsters from the "Hero" of the game you fall into to gather Love.

But how is Toby involved with this? To put it simply, Toby is the first domino on why Moon: Remix RPG ever came out in English. (Interview)

But it's not just that, Undertale is even why Stray Children exists at all. In fact it's the first RPG he's made since Moon 20+ years ago (Interview 2)

So what we have here is the next RPG from one of the most important inspirations for Undertale, because Undertale directly inspired the person who made that inspiration in the first place to try and make another RPG.

This isn't just a game that you might like because it's similar, this is a game made as a direct response to the inspiration two artists kept giving each other. I think that's beautiful, and I'm eagerly looking forward to it.

Ok so little Prague recap (my first Käärijä concert but I guess not my last one?)

we had a decent spot but I was also just too lazy to queue for ages and I think I’m too old for that lmao

He played for 90 min plus and FUCK YEAH THE SETLIST WAS AMAZING I WAS SO FUCKING LUCKY HE PLAYED VANTALAINEN, HIS NEW DISCO BALLS SONGS LOL, PAIDATON RIEHUJA!, ROCK ROCK REMIX, MOTTORITIE ON KUUMAA AND PEOPLES CHAMPion AND EAT SLAY LOVE!

His rambling was insane but I love his humor and high pitched English voice

It was like seriously funny to see the difference in him flirting with men and women, with women he seemed quite daring and confident meanwhile with men he was kinda shy lol. There was a security guy in front and he was like „wow it’s wonderful you’re here, you’re such strong man, you’re fucking beautiful…. Call me..“ and immediately turned around lmao

There was a pregnant lady and he was so happy about it

He was also super kind and considerate in general like always asking if it’s ok and stuff

He took so many people on stage (shoutout to the person who had to sing Joosts part in Trafik I would have DIED)

His stage persona is amazing and his showmanship as well like I was jumping nonstop and I had such a good time

VERDICT I will def go to another of his concerts again it’s just such a fun time and I wish I had more „physical“ friends in the fandom bc I was too shy to talk to anyone plus I was there with my partner who now loves Käärijä too fuck yeah

Come Home - I swear to the Frost Mother herself this sent literal fucking chills down my spine. I never thought I'd feel so moved by a song in my goddamn life. It doesn't just sound like Mother Yngya calling to The Lamb/Player, but the entire flock. Oh my fucking frost I just started mentally and audibly ascending, and I think physically too. So many thoughts came to my mind at this point. The vocals really sent everything home. Absolutely fucking GODLY.

Frozen Over - Already starting off incredibly strong! This song is a great follow-up from Come Home. It seems like a mix of Yngya's speaking with the lambs trying to call The Lamb home, or that Yngya is trying to speak to the cult somehow, but the fading and overlapping vocals make it seem like it's hard for her to properly do so. It's so peaceful and loving..

Snow Day - I love the snowy motif in this (I mean no shit ngl)! It sounds oddly like she's sort of... Yodeling, I think? I couldn't properly analyze this since it was so short- :,D

First Snow - This feels like a flashback of some sort, given the name! That, or it's the joy of experiencing the first snow in who fucking knows how long! The glitching vocals are pretty damn good in my opinion, but the vocals mixed in with the rhythm in the middle of the song, especially the chimes, is EVEN BETTER. Love it. <3

Woolhaven - WHY IS IT SO GODDAMN OMINOUS?? I LOVE THIS SO MUCH BUT SHEESH- I don't even know where to begin with this! But the faint sound of bells, along with the intro, really gives off the ghostly feeling, or even a creepy haunted vibe! The beat really carries this home, but GODDAMN THE VOCALS! It seems like they're chanting, screaming, yelling, all at once, and their odd, distorted rhythm here sounds so perfectly off, given the bells.. as if echoing their broken bells. It's so fucking eerie, possibly in my top 3 favorite songs in this god forsaken OST.

Disciples of Winter - I don't know what to properly say on this because I haven't played the game, but it sounds like Sariel and the other disciples singing for, or in unison, with Yngya, as if trying to call for her. Trying to tell her that they're okay. Trying to ask her for guidance. I LOVE IT.

Ewefall - OH MY GOD THIS IS A VERY CLOSE SECOND IN TERMS OF MY FAVORITE SONGS! It sounds like Yngya is guiding the lamb, or her voice is echoing throughout Ewefall! The beat is so heavy, becoming distorted when the sound of guitars hit midway. The lower vocals(?) seem like lost souls, or even voices of The Free Pack! I also like the sound of sticks hitting together midway, and the vocals at the end really send it home, as if Yngya was trying to plead or reason. BEAUTIFUL!

The Free Pack - Fucking damn it. This is SO GOOD. It seems like the voices of the wolves, or even the voice of Yngya unable to get to the Free Pack's Citadel (or even them twisting her words, based on the remix made here!), and then the longer, clearer vocals seems like she's trying to reason with the Free Pack or tell them off. I hate that I love this so much! XD

The Heathen Marchosias - Marchosias you bitch WHY DID YOU HAVE TO HAVE SUCH A GREAT THEME. THE GUITARS AND THE BEAT IS AMAZING AND I'M MAD ABOUT IT. STOP BEING AWESOME GNG LEMME HATE YOU IN PEACE (I mean all of this positively I promise- XD)

Flockade (Peace) - I genuinely listened to this part of the OST repeatedly nonstop. I love the vocals and the peaceful sounding guitars! It sounds like Yngya and her followers are chanting in unison.. It's lovely. Bravo.

Flockade (War) - THIS is better though, imo. This genuinely sounds like she's leading an army into war (makes sense XD) and the army is chanting alongside her! The drums sound oddly like heavy marching.. So lovely yet so strong. Amazing. A wonderful encore.

The Rot - THIS CREEPED ME OUTTTTT. THE GUITARS AND THE SQUELCHING NOISES ARE FUCKING EERIE. The vocals died with the drums makes it seem like the rot is speaking through the heart's beat or along with the heart! It sounds so corrupted and out of place yet it goes together beautifully! I have no words for this except for the fact that I would probably piss myself if I heard this in-game.

Those Who Suffer - I don't know how to describe this.. The vocals are frightening. They sound lost. Corrupted. They're screaming through the rot. It's goddamn terrifying.

Lost Souls - I think this plays prior to awakening Yngya, it's REALLY peaceful and calming, yet feels oddly.. off. As if it's somehow portraying the feeling of fear and trauma whilst also portraying peace and end. Not much I can say on this, but that's because there are no words to describe this. It's fucking GORGEOUS.

The Executioner - OUGHHHH MY HEARTTT NEXT TIME JUST LOBOTOMIZE ME IT WOULD'VE HURT LESS!! THE FUCKED UP BEAT AND MUSIC MAKES HER SCARIER THAN SHE ACTUALLY IS AND THE VOCALS SOUNDS LIKE SHE'S PLEADING AND BEGGING AND TRYING TO RESIST AND- DOES SHE SPEAK RUSSIAN?!?!? THIS PART GENUINELY MADE ME CRY SOMEHOW OH MY GOD

Yngya (First Son, Baal Remix) - YNGYA YOU BEAUTIFUL FUCKING SIX-EYES LOOKIN' ASS MF YOU HAVE THE BEST SONG OUT OF THE BUNCH I LOVE YOU SO SO SOOOO MUCH!! THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE SONG OUT OF THE ENTIRE BUNCH OH MY FUCKING FROST THE VOCALS ARE GODLY AND THE SONG AND THE BEAT AND THE MIX JS BRINGS IT ALL HOME FR (Also if that's the Baal Remix, is there one with Aym's remix or with no remix?
