Thoughts on Little Fires Everywhere finale:
1. My poor smol baby cinnamon roll Izzy. This child is emotional and sweet and creative and smart and deserves to be loved and accepted. My heart broke for her. Nods to the actress who deserves an Emmy/Golden Globe nomination.
2. Mia got what she deserved from Pearl in that lies speech. Mia has been antagonistic by choice from the word go.
3. Bill. Elena sucks but you do too. She told you she felt about baby number 4. YOU should have cut back works hours. YOU should have spent less time with friends and more time with the kids. YOU should have changed more diapers and cooked dinners. Share in the blame. (Also props to Joshua Jackson who I have been watching act since we were both children; you’re still amazing)
4. Poor Pearl, trying to do the right thing and not sure how because she didn’t get enough guidance. Being with Tripp; not wrong. Lying about it; wrong. Lying is what’s wrong here, not following your heart. Moody being entitled to Pearl; wrong. Being hurt that she and his brother lied to him; not wrong.
5. The Richardson Family Collective Mental Breakdown: A. Elena berating Izzy like that; wow just EVIL. Her other kids saw how evil and hateful she was. What a moment. No wonder Izzy ran away. B. THE SCREAM. I’ve also been watching Reese Witherspoon since we were both kids and I don’t think I’ve ever heard her make that sound. WOW. C. BURN IT ALL. I knew whoever burned the house down would be unexpected but I really didn’t expect that. Those three burning it all away... damn. My mind is blown y’all.
6. Bebe. What is you doin’ Bebe???? A. My heart is with her. Tons of empathy for her. But what she was doing is wrong. Linda and her husband loved May Ling. Even with their blunders. And they could provide for her. Bebe was in no better position to provide for her in that moment than she was before. In fact it was worst because now they would be on the run and penniless and starving. Bebe loved her daughter but not enough to do what was best for May Ling because that’s what was hardest for Bebe. Sadly that’s a mark of being selfish. 🤷🏽♀️ I said what I said. Linda and her husband were devastated and what happend wasn’t fair to them either, regardless of their other privileges.
7. Elena. Elena, Elena, Elena. You trash person. I really hate this woman. She actually went to an abortion clinic to get her friend to violate doctor patient confidentiality and then tried to use what she thought Pearl did to hurt Mia. And the totality of her treatment of Izzy. What a horrible nasty selfish person. Ugh. She’s awful.
Lexie: "What does race have to do with anything?"
Brian: "I don't know. How about you ask Pearl"
OK I just finished Little Fires Everywhere (the series) and I’m surprised by some people criticising Bebe. I was really hoping she’d get her baby back, and tbh I had very little sympathy for the McCulloughs. I didn’t expect anyone who watched it to feel differently lol
Because really: If Bebe was a white, deadbeat dad who lost his kid because he couldn’t take care of them, and then got his life together and tried to get them back, I guarantee people would be all about that shit. I’ve seen movies about that basic plot, with deadbeat dads portrayed very sympathetically. But she lost her baby because the system failed her, and no one would even give her a $2 package of formula. So she should just sit back and take it? Please.
wow so i finished little fires everywhere
some final thoughts:
izzy was so good - the only person untainted and unmarred and deserved so much better than her shitbag of a mother
trip was ok - i feel like his whole thing with being the dumb athlete was kind of overdone but i still enjoyed it
moody deserved better - his brother betrayed him and while he wasn’t entitled to pearl he definitely shouldn’t have been lied to and betrayed
pearl was also so amazing - she deserved so much better
lexie was ok - she was definitely the most flawed of the siblings but i still really liked her despite her casual racism/ micro-aggressions
mia SUCKS - people keep talking about how the ‘better life’ they could have had with the money didn’t matter bc pearl always had what she needed but that’s so ridiculous, yeah she had what she needed but what about the things she just wanted the things she deserved, she never had her own BED for christ’s sake
elena sucks SO MUCH - i can’t even get into this bc it makes my blood boil she tried to control every single aspect of her kids lives until it all blew up in her face, the way she treated izzy genuinely made me sick at times
and finally unpopular opinion:
bebe chow sucks too i get that she was trying her best but her best could have killed that child and she is not in a different place financially than she was before so who is to say she won’t abandon her again
also the idea that the mccouloughs were some asshole white rich people who wanted to just buy may ling is honestly ridiculous - the way linda screamed when she found out her baby was gone, that’s a mother’s scream
(also really hated how the show treated surrogacy and adoption in general)
overall good show and it made me cry at the end: 7/10
“how much you sell them for” - Bebe
Me about Bebe calling Elena on her exchanging money for her child:
How do I know Little Fires Everywhere is a good show? Cos I have never in my life felt as much hatred for a fictional character as I do for both moms and pearl. Honestly the only ones I actively like are Trip, Bill, Izzy, Bebe and Mayling.
