Where does all the fantasy of writers come from, how on earth do they create these gigantic universes? Here’s the truth. The more you are bewildered by reality — “why are things this way?” — the more excellent your worldbuilding skill is. An escapist’s mind has a hundred situations and modified realities to draw from. It already lives inside fic plots. Now, many creative people dream about these worlds in all detail to varying degree. But they struggle to put complex images into appropriate words that reflect their vision. And I agree that this is the hardest part. It takes a long time until the text matches what you thought up. And there is no magic remedy except trying. If a rudimentary sentence does not capture your imagination, still, leave it there. Add detail later, bring the adjectives, but later. The only important thing is to pen what you want your idea to be, and see the merit in letting others read it. Remember there are plenty out there who admire you for seeing and mapping this world and could never (!) fathom just an image before their inner eye this way. They won’t say that your escapism is unhealthy, they will say, wow, what a good read, how did you do this? One person's trash is another's treasure. If you want to escape, art is your shelter, and you will be surprisingly capable of inspiring others there. I find it important that you show us your authentic fantasy, even if it’s only in bits and pieces. Trust in that it will decorate and bend the non-fictional reality around you someday.
