Finished my Homestuck reread. My final verdict is that it is, despite everything, genuinely awesome. This really shouldn't come as that much of a surprise, and frankly this may have been my conclusion after previous rereads too and I was just afraid to admit it. Either way it's fun to have finally come full circle on such an important piece of media from my formative years (even if I definitely wasn't ready for it yet back then, LOL).
Anyway if you hate Vriska then you're getting the unmarked car treatment when I take power so just look forward to that
Ignore that it’s literally midnight where i am when I’m posting but ,,

The moonlight stared back at Link with it’s pale, unmoving gaze. His gloved hands were laced behind his head and he sank further and further into the snow he laid upon as time went by. He heard Zelda muttering to herself as she had been, studying one of the many evergreen trees that dotted the Hebra mountain range, that were all too fascinating to the Princess of Hyrule in a way Link didn’t understand.
But the Master Sword was at his side and she had to be protected. He wouldn’t leave her for anything, although he was dozing off…
Link dreamt of those same evergreen trees, dancing in the wind. The sky was an odd turquoise that Link didn’t think to question and his footsteps in the snow echoed, echoed, and echoed again. He had no weapon and Zelda was gone. He skirted no panic, however. Somehow, all these odd things seemed normal, seemed like reality.
He walked along the cliffside until he came to a river of pink, viscous water, that sparkled blue and ebbed bright, as if a light of its own.
He knelt before it, in awe of the color like a child, reveling in the freedom to be a child that this dream seemed to allow him. Of course he didn’t know this was a dream, but here there were no obligations. He was in simple clothing and there were no castles, no divine beasts. He wondered where Zelda was, but not too hard. This reality, or the illusion of it, was simple and straightforward, no destiny, no fate. It was easy to believe because, deep down, it was what he always wanted.
His subconscious couldn’t help but chase it, a curious hand dipping into the thick, vividly bright water.
The sky turned red and Link immediately knew he wasn’t alone. He turned, whipping his head around to see an owner-less white and gold blade swipe at him. He fell backwards onto his hands as an instinct to avoid it, making a splash into the water. The sword prepared for another strike, a downward strike. Link, defenseless, closed his eyes and tried to open them all at once, forcing open eyelids that he hoped, in some other reality, were closed.
The moonlight returned, pale white in a navy blue sky.
Right.
This was reality.
Link sat up and shook the snow out of his hair.
“You’re up!’ He heard Zelda say excitedly, Link looking behind himself and at his charge. “I would have woken you myself, but I figured you needed the rest.”
Her cheeks were painted pink, but otherwise she seemed to be fine, her white snowquill getup warding away the cold.
“Thanks,” Link said genuinely. He lost his focus in her eyes for a second. He averted his gaze.
“Uhm,” he stammered, standing up and equipping the Master Sword to his back. “A-are you finished yet? We should be heading back to the stable. I don’t think your father would want you out in the cold this long.”
“I’m just about finished,” Zelda said in reply, standing up as well and tucking her many and scattered notes about evergreen trees into her bag.
As they walked back to the stable, Link was sorely tempted once again. He could barely admit it to himself, but he wanted to hold her hand. Something in his heart pulled him to her, compelled him to reach out and touch her hand, but alas...
That would be far too simple, and far too dangerous.
Something I’ve been pondering about for a while now... actually, a whole year, ever since I was rewatching XY for the third time... somehow, the XY art style, in my eyes at least, made Rocket Gang look extremely odd in some episodes... almost Teen-like. It was only in couple of episodes so it was most likely just an animator’s anatomy propotions issue, but it always bothered me when I watched XY.
While Satoshi/Ash looks older than he actually is in XY, even confusing me to think he actually aged, Rocket Gang looked younger. It must be the episodes where their bodies looked extremely thing compared to their heads. I wish I could bring up an example episode right away but I can’t think of a specific episode right of the pat. it has been a year since I rewatched XY last time.
In OS through BW and SM, Rocket Gang look like adults all the time. They never look oddly young to me in those series, and I never, never confused them for any younger than 20-30. Def 25s.
Reminder that I do like XY’s art style. Just... felt like I needed to get this out of my system. Been bothering me a whole year and... I wonder if anyone’s noticed the same or if it’s just me.
