My best advice is find out what the lecturer wants and give it to them. Then you're not really going out on a limb. But it flies in the face of the "free thinking" uni is supposed to demand. It'll get you the outcomes you want.

I know this feel. I used to do this. My theory was if I handed in average work and got average marks, then it was because I didn't try, not because I was stupid. With hindsight, I do regret coasting like that instead of applying myself.
I think my main problem is that I just get overwhelmed and tired and like I can’t think. This semester I’ve mostly gotten into the essay writing pattern, but this one has thrown me.
