I got Zuked! 🙃 . Hadn’t checked the garden for a few days, & while passing by the zucchini bush I felt a chill & the presence of a large, dark creature lurking in the shadows. . Parted the leaves to discover this Green Beast ready to zuke me back to the stone age. It already had sucked the lifeforce from the little zucchini behind it. . My best, most productive tomatoes are the ones I did absolutely nothing about! 😆 . Apparently last year’s currant tomatoes dropped & self seeded outside the raised bed, & then used the cover of the late monster “cube of butter” squash plant to tumbleweed out. Removed the squash a few weeks ago & kaboom! Currant tomatoes everywhere! 🥳 . Harvested a bunch, trellised some strands, & pruned back the rest of the rats’ nest. (Wait, why didn’t the rats eat these low-hanging fruit?!? 🤔Or the gophers the roots?!? 🤔🤔) . Planted some shin kuroda carrots back in Jan/Feb, but then turned/added soil/compost in April, basically burying all the carrots except for these three hardy roots ✊🏼 . Best carrot harvest so far! Especially in terms of girth—which, I’ve learned recently, is an important aspect of quality taste & texture of veg. Packs in the pleasure, apparently. So maybe the double mounding is the secret? 🤔 .
