6 and dealer's choice! :)
6. What’s your guilty pleasure as a writer?
oh, god. there’s like, three narrative tropes, in general, that will suck me in like catnip no matter what, and that is: brainwashing, amnesia, and reincarnation. I’ve written Robb/Theon reincarnation fics plenty of times already, it’s my go-to AU for them bc obviously I love exploring what happens if these two dummies get a second chance at fixing things--a lot of the time they take the same roles they used to have, but I am also kind of in love with making Robb the fucked-up one for once in his miserable life (see: GOTG AU).
also, I love brainwashing and amnesia, so it follows that Winter Soldier AUs are my favorite kind of AUs--but I do love amnesia on its own, the idea of a past that’s murky even to the character themselves, and the identity issues that no doubt arise from it. an example would be Robb Stark: I’ve had him end up with amnesia like twice. the first time, he’s just a guy who ends up working at an inn and would be deeply uninterested in being a king. the second time, he’s the Winter Soldier, with all the emotional and mental damage that comes with the package. I also have a gdoc that has Matt Murdock end up in a pseudo-WS role, so. yyyyeah.
a more fandom-specific plot would be the post-RW AUs where Robb somehow lives. I’ve written a plethora of them. it’s embarrassing how many I’ve written, what I’ve shown on my tumblr is just a fraction of them. I just really love exploring how he might’ve turned out after such a traumatic event, and he tends to turn out with a guilt complex the size of Winterfell.
also, I almost forgot: for Marvel, I absolutely dig 616/MCU crossovers. not just putting elements of 616 in MCU, but actually writing the 616 characters meeting their MCU versions. somehow they tend to get along surprisingly well. (I love comics, they allow me to indulge myself in multiverse shenanigans. sometimes sexy multiverse shenanigans.)
7. Be honest: are you mean to your faves, or do you go easy on them?
it depends! I am, for the most part, a terrible person when it comes to my faves (see: WS!Robb, the moral dilemma Matt is currently wrestling with about lying to his dad re: Daredevil after his dad comes back, the shit I’m putting Matt through in another fic that jumps off from the latest arc in the comics and ignores Secret Wars), and tend to inflict a lot of pain on them. there are exceptions, though: Theon Greyjoy’s my favorite, but he’s managed to escape the usual trauma conga line by already having gone through a lot of horrible, terrible trauma in canon. usually when he pops up in my fics he’s--well, not completely better, but he’s recovering nicely at least. one time he even got to be Star-Lord.
so I guess I’m only mean to my faves when canon hasn’t been excessively mean to them. though I suppose Matt is the exception to this rule, considering what he goes through in the comics.
