Precisely! I also realized for myself - in this scene specifically - that they were great WLW representation because they were not forcing that representation out of the anxiety or pressure to do so from fans or shippers. This is often a problem with WLW ships.
Not with CaitVi.
In denying them the romantic moment of a kiss they weren’t taking anything away, they were building on what yet has to be established. That trust in each other. This was literally the first moment where you see that happening so even though it looks like the most appropriate moment for a kiss, it would undermine their individual character representation and development and therefore their romantic progression would feel forced and insincere. So I 100% agree that not having them kiss here was not a denial. It was a statement of something deeper to engage with but not quite yet.
Foundation is incredibly important when writing a romance between any characters and representation anxiety and cancellation anxiety is often what either ruins it or never makes it ever a focus in the first place.
No, the creators did well here with this CaitVi scene.
And as I said in my previous post. They’re both men.
I don’t know if they’re queer men but they’re MEN.
So all of what is said in this video is commendable because they’ve learned enough about women to know how to sincerely represent a romantic relationship between women. That really stands out for me.
I fear that it’s over for me; I’m entirely consumed.
