Castellano was more popular in argentina in my experience

in my experience ppl here call it castellano more than español

Fwiw in the Philippines Spanish is "Kastila" for both the language and the people)
Though it should be noted that Spanish was only ever widely spoken among the social elite, even during the occupation!

2. i might be biased in my perception of spain cause i noticed that in barcelona especially ppl seemed to use castellano but it’s interesting that it’s the same in madrid!
