Jose's never had to start a Christmas card with an apology before. He's not even sure why he wants to apologise so badly. It's not guilt
Wenger/Mourinho
In December 2005 José sends Arsène a Christmas card to appoligise for calling him a voyeur. It gets overshadowed by their other incidents. But the Christmas card saga is so interesting to me.
Because I genuinely do think that José felt bad and wanted to appoligise but *spoiler alert* it backfired.
The fic is like a deep dive into what I think happened. And how two old (they weren' that old at the time) men could manage to fuck up a simple Christmas card.
It wanted it to be done by Christmas but unfortunately I'm the worlds slowest writer but I will post the first half (Jose's pov) when ao3 is back up. Arsene's pov is more of a struggle how do you write the same event without it being repetitive.
@theswimminglemon replied to your post “There are five major regional variations or dialects of Latin America....”
Castellano was more popular in argentina in my experience

Fwiw in the Philippines Spanish is "Kastila" for both the language and the people)
Though it should be noted that Spanish was only ever widely spoken among the social elite, even during the occupation!
1. @theswimminglemon yeah but argentinian spanish sux so........
2. i might be biased in my perception of spain cause i noticed that in barcelona especially ppl seemed to use castellano but it’s interesting that it’s the same in madrid!
3. @bed-dweller do it it’s the kind of science we deserve pls
4. @unrealcities i kid you not this ~1000 word article did not once mention that spanish is or ever was spoken in the philippines

*cloud cuckoo land is excellent but it's six hundred pages long and i can only take it in small bits. after that i have 1491 and a discworld, i think equal rites.
so the concept here is that jesper decides he needs to disclose to kaz that he's a durast. tbh i don't remember why, but maybe he can't handle keeping the secret anymore or he knows that it might come out soon anyway, and he'd rather do it on his terms. i do NOT remember where in canon i thought i was setting this, just put it in where you think it makes sense and if it doesn't make sense anywhere, well, it's all wish-fulfillment anyway.
anyways, he tells kaz and kaz FREAKS - not because jesper has this dangerous secret, but because he's realizing that when jesper has problems or secrets, he brings them to kaz instead of guarding them as closely as possible. kaz, of course, considers himself inherently untrustworthy and cutthroat, and has to figure out what to do with a secret that has been freely given, when he didn't sense a disclosure like that coming. jesper is putting it all on the line by telling him this, and kaz dislikes that it comes as a surprise. but, well, kaz discovers that he actually wants to guard jesper's weaknesses, the same way he does his own. obviously, they both feel incredibly normal about this realization!
it's mostly an excuse to describe kaz's body language as seen through jesper's eyes, tbh. jesper is extremely observant, and kaz is one of his favorite subjects to observe.
just for you, a couple excerpts from my favorite bits:
Jesper notices, though, that it’s almost all annoyance, and little if any viciousness or rage. But then his eyes flash, and the tenor changes. Now a terrible darkness really is growing behind his eyes. Ah, there’s the rage. People died when Dirtyhands looked like this. People suffered.

“Okay, this is the playing field: it appears that for all that I threaten you, you’ve still somehow ended up trusting me more than you fear me. Ergo, when something goes wrong, when you’ve been threatened, when you feel vulnerable, what do you do? You seek me out. You move in, not away. You rely on me to watch your back.”
Jesper can’t believe what he’s hearing. He settles on talking about the inane. It can’t be any worse than sitting silently under Kaz’s level, if still pinched, gaze. “I, um. I suppose that’s kind of stupid of me to do when you’re the one who made me feel vulnerable in the first place.”
Kaz’s mouth stayed severe, but Jesper thought it wanted to curl into a tiny smirk. “Well, you know how I generally feel about the state of your intelligence.”
PEPLUIS! I KNOW THE TITLE IS SELF-EXPLANATORY BUT ALSO EVERYONE ALWAYS NEEDS MORE PEP AND LUIS.
Ahh, that’s the noise and the melody, aka the epic tragedy of Pep Guardiola and Luis Figo:
At Barca, we're constantly surrounded by this deafening roar of noise, Guillermo once said to Luis. He'd been a little tipsy, which only made him look even more like a prince out of some glossy, tiresome tragedy. Pep, when we hear noise, he hears music. And sometimes he can even make it quiet for the rest of us.
Luis doesn't remember what he said in response, but he vividly remembers how it made Guillermo stare at him like he was a disappointing potential son- or brother-in-law.
Pep laughs when Luis puts it to him, a while later. "Guillermo is a good man who thinks politics is something that happens to other people."
"No, not that - the bit about hearing the music."
"Isn't that the kind of romantic nonsense you despise?"
Pep's eyes crinkle at the corners with his smile. It makes Luis feel a little less sane every time he notices, like he's barely clinging to the objective reality he so worships.
"I can be romantic."
"I don't doubt it."
Not always, not often - but some days, when he looks at Pep, when he can almost see this city and this mad club the way Pep does, Luis thinks he can hear the music too.
