spring beebies
The Esper Woods - Beeby
The Beeby is a typically docile insect that resides in the Esper Woods. They typically spend their time building hives and making a uniquely sweet honey. They're larger than regular bees, and their colonies work slightly differently -- the average colony rarely exceeds 20, and rather than having different "classes" (queen, worker, etc.), they all work together doing all the important jobs. It's assumed that they communicate to each other telepathically.
They typically run away when danger approaches, but when they're pushed too far they will retaliate. One option is to use their stingers to incapacitate their threats. The venom in their stings will cause the stung area to go numb, or even be paralyzed, ranging from a few minutes to hours depending on how much venom is released. Too many stings in too many places could cause a total nerve shutdown for the victim, leading to death. It's theorized that Beeby venom could be used as an anesthetic. (Beeby stingers are not barbed, so stinging will not risking their well-being.)
Their second option, however, is a bit more unusual. They may begin to swarm the threat and expel beeswax in massive amounts, effectively encasing them in the substance. We have an image of a Leppicorn up above being subjected to this form of imprisonment. The worst part about this is that the beeswax of Beebies is very tough -- it's been compared to stone in hardness, though it is lighter and surprisingly buoyant. In this situation, it would require a strong tool like a metal axe to break the beeswax open.
The strange thing about this is that the beeswax method does not appear to be a tactic they normally use, as it's a tiring and wasteful method. Beeby colonies are often subject to mind control; in nearly all cases, another Esper Beast can cause the Beebies to act unnaturally. It's especially obvious here, where the eyes and antennae of the Beeby colony seem to glow. Chances are it's not the Beebies that are holding a grudge with this poor Leppicorn...
The fact that you’re not calling their offspring he Beebies is a missed opportunity
Eh, hindsight is 20/20. I personally like Bumblebabies or Bumblebaby. It's been part of the Fandom for years, and I think it's adorable. Beebies, in my opinion, kind of sounds like someone baby talking their dog or ammunition for a B.B. gun.
Thank you for the insight, though! Beebies is cute, just not what I'm going for. But. Hey! There's nothing stopping you from starting a trend! Write up a few Bumbleby baby blurbs and fics and call them Beebies!
Okay, so, I was going to draw this but tbh I have ten minutes before work and I’m just trying to hash this out,, so,, maaaybee I’ll come back to the literal drawing board later-
But until then, let’s get angsty *cracks all the bones in my fingers and cries*
So, bee babies.
The first bee baby a real sweetie from the get go- a very easy baby, and Yang and Blake are like wow, this is a piece of cake.
She’s like a little mini Blake, with her dark hair and skin tone, and her ears, and her more petite nature. But she’s got Yang’s(and Raven’s, let’s be real) face, and eyes.
She’s a good kid, albeit a little shy around new people, and likes adventuring and roughhousing around with her aunties in the yard-
And then one day the playing goes a little too far, and maybe she does something she’s not supposed to- maybe she climbs a scarily tall tree, or plays with a weapon she’s not supposed to-
And she unlocks her semblance.
It’s like Yangs, where she takes damage and comes back stronger... but it’s so much worse.
They call it ‘Nine Lives’ when she gets to school.
The second bee baby is not so easy. He’s loud, and needy, and at first the older bee baby doesn’t like him much at all.
He looks more like Yang- but he’s the literal golden child. Golden hair, golden eyes, tan and freckled- even for all his incessant screaming, he garners the most praise and the most attention, and the first bee baby hates it.
She doesn’t mean to bounce the swing so hard- or maybe she doesn’t mean for the bottle to be that hot- or maybe she just doesn’t realize how light her grip is-
Bee baby #2 is impervious. He takes no damage at all. She hadn’t meant to- she really hadn’t meant to- but Blake and Yang are upset all the same. And the 1st bee baby can only hate him more.
Fast forward so, so far. Picture a battle field, and a small army of faunus and humans, young and old. Picture a golden boy standing tall with a crown of gold, and wisdom beyond his years flickering in his eyes.
Salem is long gone- but the relics remain, and there is still someone to fill her shoes.
Picture him stepping down from his hill to meet her on the battlefield, taking in the ragged way she stands, and the anger and the exhaustion in her eyes as she grips the sword that is slowly decaying her body.
Idk, just some thoughts..

hi! after watching avatar, i was a little bit curious. is bumbleby Yue pronounced like Yoo/You or Yoo-ay? thank you :)
Hey anon, thanks for asking!! this is my first bumblebaby ask so you don't know how ridiculously excited I am!! Yue's name is def pronounced much closer to Yoo-ay just like atla's Yue, but the real pronunciation of the word is a little softer, more like Yoo-eh, which is how I say it in my head. :))
similarly, Tara has a more specific pronunciation as well! It's a short vowel sound, Tar-ah/Tar-uh, like tar pits. Not like Tara from teen titans.
Bonus Bumbleby baby being spoiled by team RWBY!
