Thing I learned today on Diners, Drive-in, and Dives...
Not everyone calls elbow macaroni in meat sauce “American Chop Suey?” For realsies? What do you all call it?
Beef Macaroni | Gluten Free
Ingredients:
. 250g macaroni (I used half a bag of Heinz gluten free macaroni)
. 250g minced beef
. 1 large onion
. A few garlic cloves (+ garlic powder, to taste)
. 2-3 large celery sticks
. Handful of closed cup mushrooms
. 2 carrots
. 1-2 Tbsp liquid amino (or soy sauce)
. Beef gravy (I used 1 Kallo beef gravy sachet + 200ml water)
. Black pepper (to taste)
. 1 heaped tsp tomato purée
. 1/2 tsp turmeric
. 1 Tbsp dried thyme (optional)
. Olive oil
Method:
. Finely chop all the vegetables.
. In a sauté pan, fry the beef on medium heat with a bit of olive oil. When mostly cooked, turn the heat to medium/low and add the onion, garlic, celery, carrots and mushrooms. Keep frying for a few minutes, until the vegetables start to soften up. Add more oil if needed.
. Add the liquid amino, black pepper, thyme, turmeric, tomato purée and gravy. Simmer until the vegetables are fully cooked, stirring on and off. Add a bit more water from time to time if it appears too dry and/or it starts sticking.
. Cook the macaroni separately, drain and mix with the sauce once fully cooked.
Enjoy!
