GIG REVIEW: Beehoover, Buried Sleeper, Driech
https://www.facebook.com/events/508478919360294/
This gig was originally scheduled to take place in Aberdeen, but due to some noise complaints (something that has been happening more and more these days in Aberdeen, i’m sad to hear.) it had to be moved to Dundee. Put on by Aberdoomed Promotions on a Tuesday night this is how things panned out.
Dreich are up first, but now before i start i have a slight apology; I fucked up! I thought this was going to be the Danish Doom metal band, but there is 2 bands sharing the name, this one from Scotland. My Bad. Anyway onward they kick things of as they mean to go on cranking out some quality doom! Slow, and moody their epic songs are full of atmosphere reaching to almost Funeral Doom portions at times. With a kind of middling reaction from the crowd though a fuck-heavy start things started to look bleak, but once the lights were dimmed they really started to shine.
Vocals are a delivered by the pipes of Paul (ex-Bonesaw) in a kind of distant way that was hard to hear in places but fit the tone well adding to Funeral Doom edge they have. Their bassist suffering a little with stage fright as he had his back to us the whole show that look dramatic as fuck giving a kind of monolithic look to band on stage. There was even room for a the drummer to shine darkly in the back ground keeping things moving a long nicely. Nice set, but admittedly not to everyone taste in doom [7/10]

Up next are 4-piece Buried sleeper, that really got the best crowd response in the way of headbanging at least, having the right amount of movement in ways of sludge variations. The band had a lot more energy on stage, releasing wave after wave of heavy doom slams and tense ambient sections on a solid base of sludgy goodness. On stage they kept things tight through even despite a guitarists having slight pedal trouble.
Only playing 4 songs with the final being an epic 12 minutes opus, they didn't disappoint as each track is chock a block with great moments that really made it feel like they played more than what they did. With another album in the pipeline look forward to seeing more of these guys in the futures. [8/10]

Now for the main feature Beehoover! Before they even start everyone knew they were getting something a a lot different than the norm. With the band being a duo the drummers stage was cleared and a massive set of Bass amps put in its place. The drummer set up in the centre-left of the main stage area not forward but facing to where the bassist vocalist is set up on a stool on the right side, also facing. This is apparently like just like how they practice taking cue from each others glances, as you could imagine all the timing need to be spot on.
Playing almost like a jazz act in the tightness in the members, and with a sound that is like 70 / 30 bass sounds: to jazzy drumming. The Band are more of a rock act than a metal one, but that doesnt hamper the Heaviness. Super heavy fuzzed out tones that are stoner like in nature quickly submerge everyone one in fog of bluesy boogie. With a great deal of personality, the two start of slower and ambient and quickly build up quickening in to heavy bass driven jams, furiously delivered, even dance-able at times. A great watch although not much movement with the both members are siting down, but an interest watch no less just see how they make such a racket. I’m so glad I’ve gotten the see them live. [8/10]
Overall a fun night, great bands, only hampered by my own tiredness.
Next show: The beast of Hordes Of Belial - 7 and Hell festival.
My Next Gig! Beehoover, Buried Sleeper, Dreich
https://www.facebook.com/events/508478919360294/
Where? Beat Generator Live!, Dundee
When? 20th September 2016
How much? £5.00
Most importantly, who?
Beehoover - this duo caught my eye early on when i saw the unorthodox line up, a drummer, a bassist, no other guitars!!??!! These guys do make a lovely racket though. Busting out fuzzed out goodness in the vain of a stoner Clutch.
Buried Sleeper - Sludgy doom metal masters of the swamp lands of fife and beyond (https://www.facebook.com/BuriedSleeper)
Dreich - heavy-as-shit death doom metal from the edge of Sludgeville! In Denmark, i think. (https://www.facebook.com/dreichnoise)
This one show not to be missed for all you doom metalheads out there!
