Part 1: Asmo and Levi Part 2: Mammon Part 3: Lucifer, Beel and Belphie (this)
Notes: sorry for taking quite some time to reply! I hope you like this.
Warnings: break-up themes, unrequited love/feelings, VERY harsh breakup. Seriously, don't read it if you've recently been dumped or have a sensitive heart.
Characters involved: Lucifer, Beelzebub and Belphegor
Gender-neutral reader, you/yours
The two of you were in his office again.
Even if it had been almost a year since you first met him, you couldn't help but feel mesmerized as you took in Lucifer for all he was, ravelling in the fact that he was yours and you were his.
Yet you couldn't help but feel a sense of bittersweetness as you watched him put down the last document of the night and finally turn towards you.
"Well, I guess it's time for me to get this over with."
A small smile ghosted across your face as you leaned in front and rested your elbows on his desk, with your mind racing with thoughts of what he could possibly have in mind.
However, something about the way Lucifer awkwardly tugged on his tie and cleared his throat had your smile quickly fading.
He let out a sigh at your question, leaning back in his seat to meet your gaze.
"I know you still have a couple of days remaining here, but I no longer see the point in deceiving you further and making you leave here with a false assumption of me."
"Our relationship is- was a farce. A ruse, a lie, a ploy to make you feel more comfortable in Devildom."
"I apologise sincerely, but you chose to completely reject every approach to make you comfortable, and since punishment was out of the question, I chose pleasure."
Lucifer quirked his eyebrow at your sudden outburst, as if he couldn't possibly understand why you were being so dramatic.
"Well faking a relationship seemed like the only way to get you out of your shell, and after almost four months of you persisting in the way you were, I was quite...desperate to appease Diavolo's wishes."
"But- but then your opinion changed, right? It started as a ploy but then you actually fell in love."
Lucifer's expression turned to one of pity as he took in your desperate attempt to try and ease your heart, but even so, he found himself shaking his head dismissively.
"I'm sorry, truly, I am."
You couldn't bear to be in his vicinity any longer, and found yourself jumping out of your seat and racing out of his office before you could think twice.
As you ran through the halls of House of Lamentation, you couldn't help but feel the familiar rooms full of pleasant memories and love morph into an ugly canvas of moments you would rather forget.
For just like Lucifer, they had all been a lie.
"I- I need to tell you something."
A small smile spread across your face as you sunk further into the pillows on his bed and turned to face the seemingly nervous ginger beside you.
For a moment, Beelzebub simply remained silent, nervously swallowing and shuffling his hair in a way that had your smile quickly turning upside down.
His silence concerned you, it really did, yet you found that his words were so much worse.
"I can't do this anymore."
It took you a moment to process in words, and another to sit up in the bed as you tried to contemplate every possible scenario that could elicit such a statement from Beelzebub.
In the end, you chose to simply scoot closer to your boyfriend and ask for clarity rather than letting your mind turn you into a nervous wreck.
His tongue darted out to nervously lick his bottom lip, with the action making your gaze stray to his lips and then lower, finally taking note of his tense, almost apprehensive state.
"-you mean a lot to me, okay. You changed me, you helped me heal, and I'm better when I'm with you. But-"
You supposed you knew the direction your conversation had just taken, yet as you shuffled in his bed you couldn't help but hope to God that you were mistaken, that Beelzebub wasn't just about to break your heart.
"I love you. I love you in a lot of ways, really, but not as you love me. I love you like a friend, a sister. And I'm so sorry to do this to you, but this relationship isn't what I want."
Beelzebub seemed to be fighting with himself as he spoke, with his gaze sinking down to stare at the cheeseburger plushie he was fiddling with.
It was clear that he was trying to word his thoughts in a way that wouldn't hurt you too much, yet you couldn't help but cower away as you finally registered what he really meant.
"So that's it? You just used me to fill the void Lilith left?"
His head quickly snapped up at your words, but even so, Beel didn't do anything to try and correct you. Instead, he chose to turn to console you, a feat that only worsened your distress.
"I still want to be friends, and don't want this to be one of those messy break-ups where we hate each other forever, but I just don't feel for you what you think I do."
You felt like you were going to faint. Or throw up.
Or perhaps, you were simply going to ball your eyes out and make a scene as you cursed at him for using you in such a way.
Yet somehow, you found it in yourself to calm down enough to throw a poorly shaped together response as you jumped up from his bed in an attempt to get away from Beelzebub.
Somehow, the hurt expression on Beel's face as you headed out only made you feel worse.
You should have revelled in his pain, should have loved the fact that he was hurting himself just as much as he did you, but instead you couldn't help but collapse in the hallway and curl into a ball as you attempted to quell the sudden stinging pain in your heart.
Perhaps the two of you weren't meant to be together, but you had become close enough for it to feel like Beelzebub hadn't just left, but had also taken a part of you with him.
The two of you had always had a relationship that couldn't be explained by others, one that went farther than simple love. You just hoped Beelzebub was certain about severing that connection.
You were fighting again. Or at least, you thought you were.
To an outside eye the way you practically screamed at Belphie while he turned his back towards you and pretended to sleep probably looked like a crazy person who had just cracked, but to you, this was your new every day schedule with your boyfriend.
"Why won't you just talk to me?"
Your question made him groan as Belphegor rolled onto his back with a deep sigh.
"For fuck's sake, you're just so tiring!"
Belphegor finally turned towards you and sat up as he spoke, spitting the words in a way that had you flinching away from his intimidating glare.
"It's exhausting to constantly have to deal with you and your annoyingly obsessive personality."
His words had you recoiling in shock, with your anger quickly simmering down and voice lowering into an almost betrayed whisper.
If your sudden distress had any effect on Belphegor he certainly didn't show it, choosing to instead once again let out a sigh that had you cringing away.
"What I mean is that you never leave me alone! Fuck it's like your world revolves around me or something!"
Your roles somehow seemed to be reversed, with Belphegor now being the annoyed one screaming while you quietly sat there and tried to avoid his harsh words.
"Yeah but I don't love you!"
The room remained silent for a moment, only piquing up again when your first tear finally fell.
The way Belphegor only rolled his eyes at your tears had you gulping down sobs as he finally spoke his mind, showing you what he had really felt all this time.
"I don't love you. Never did, never will. So you might as well leave me alone."
Your fight finally seemed to return at his words, but if you were being honest, the way you once again raised your voice and repeatedly shook your head was only a desperate state of denial.
"What do you mean you don't love me? You- you-"
Belphegor's scoff cut you off even before you could think of a response, with the sound making him seem far too nonchalant for someone who was just breaking your heart.
"Isn't it obvious? I lied. I tricked you again because I knew the only way I could fix my relationship with my brothers was with your help. But now we're fine, and I don't need you."
He leaned his back against the headboard as he spoke, even going as far as to lower his voice in that way that told you he was two seconds away from falling asleep.
"So what all the spontanious midnight dates, all the I love yous and kisses under the stars, our entire relationship, it was all just a lie?"
"Yes! Finally, you understand."
You didn't know what you were expecting as a response, but it certainly wasn't that.
The way he almost seemed relieved as he spoke only served to worsen your mood, causing tears of anger and sorrow to race down your cheeks.
Belphegor seemed almost disgusted at the sight as he crinkled his nose and furrowed his eyes, making you cry more and even let out a small sob.
"Oh, come on, this is your own fault!"
"My fault? How on Earth is this my fault?"
He scoffed at your question, almost as if the answer was as obvious as day.
"Because you were stupid enough to trust me!"
Yet another sob wracked your body as you finally broke and abandoned his bed.
You reached for one of the plushies as you spoke, throwing it in the direction of his face to try and make him feel some semblance of the pain you did. But instead Belphie seemed annoyed as he easily caught the airbone plushie and set it down beside him.
That word was all it took for you to finally race out of the attic room with tears streaming down your face as you mentally cursed at Belphegor.
Yet in a way, you supposed you deserved to get your heart broken the way you did. Maybe, being with Belphegor was the very lesson you needed to learn in order to not be so naive.
