taejun would say that he holds his alcohol pretty well. minus accounts of him going overboard with boisterous encouragement from his friends... he's usually able to hold out for a good amount of time before he gets more uncoordinated than he is regularly or blacks out. so, even though he catches onto rumors that the butterbeer at the competition might be spiked, it doesn't stop him from competing.
he's sure - considering that the event is organized by professor moon and approved by headmaster aurora - that even if the beverage was spiked, it wouldn't be by that much. at least that's what taejun believes until he's sitting on the stage where the competition is held and realizes he's starting to feel too good.
his previous thoughts about 'how much' or 'what kind' of alcohol might have been added to the butter beer have completely disappeared as he wears a relaxed smile and cheers loudly with the crowd. he's not even sure what the competition is about anymore... was it who could drink the most?... or was it who could drink the fastest? maybe it was who could drink the most in the shortest amount of time?
either way, taejun's competitive side has definitely been replaced by the side that simply enjoys a good challenge. and a good laugh. and good company. and right now that company is literally everyone in the crowd going wild at the hwaseong student chugging another mug of butter beer at the end of the stage.
taejun realizes he's also shouting loudly before he feels a pair of eyes on him...
the gaze feels intense... like it's purposefully burning into him so he takes a moment to gather his thoughts before turning to the audience. he's scanning slowly to see if he can spot someone staring at him specifically, but it doesn't help that he's slightly more intoxicated than he thought he would be and that he wasn't wearing his glasses (although he never does).
and then he spots her.

the sight of her seems to sober taejun up a lot more than he thought possible. her bright orange flamed hair is easy to pick out and there's no doubt that she's staring at him, because believe it or not, taejun owes her a big favor. a good bottle of polyjuice potion is hard to come around and taejun knows she won't be leaving him alone now after spotting him.
