Reflections on the winter solstice and seasonal depression:
The fields flood and lie fallow. Let yourself do the same. Soak up all the water you can so you can endure the drought in the summer. Get you a nice cover crop of nitrogen-fixing legumes and -this is the most important step- leave it be.
Think of the death and rebirth symbolism of winter and spring. Everything looks dead, you feel dead, the source of light and warmth and life packed her bags, dove into the sea, and slammed dark’s door behind her at 4:15pm. Its only natural to grieve! So grieve! Be flooded with tears! Mourn the green and the warmth and the length of days, mourn your productivity, be it fields or art or work or otherwise. Of course you would! What else would you do?
Now then. Here’s the hardest part:
Don’t feel guilty about it
