Sending Victors back into the arena

is absolutely the most heinous and cruelest Quarter Quell idea possible and you cannot change my mind. The one 'agreement' from the Games was that Victors were then supposed to exempt from Reapings and singularly miserable in their new lives as Mentors, props for the Capitols, and possibly enemy-stand-ins for the Districts.

And now they're going back into the arena??

There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING more cruel than that. Idk if you changed the number of tributes, changed the ages, made it another voting system, etc. Sending in those who have suffered both in the arena and then outside of it, be it for a year or for the past 60, is fucking heinous.

And just imagine how they all react to it?? Not just the announcement and those 6 months of sheer fucking fear but then being Reaped? Accepting that they'll live and die for nothing? Finding their bodies drawn back into their first arena as they notice what is eerily familiar, what is completely changed, and that the mind-ruining fear for their lives is back?? Killing again?? Watching each other die again?? Deciding they'd rather die quickly than risk winning a second time?

And those who are hopeless from the start? Who know the arena is designed for the 'star' Victors of which they were not?? Can you fucking imagine??

it’s (not) funny how katniss and finnick were completely distressed with the jabberjay attack, totally convinced that the capitol had to torture their loved ones to illicit those sounds from them, only for beetee to say yeah any kid from district 3 could distort voices like that

Fucking obsessed with Beetee. The Capital could never control him, not really. Nothing they ever took from him broke him, and they couldn't scare him into submission. He was already being punished in Sunrise on the Reaping. The first chronological appearance of him overall is him being punished for rebelling. He and Ampert clearly love each other so much, but he doesn't let Ampert's fate defeat him, he doesn't close himself off or drink away his sorrows or try to behave to not get his wife and unborn kid punished, he tries to blow up the fucking arena! And we don't see the 25 years between Sotr and Catching Fire, but clearly he's been decided to be more of a liability then an asset, because he's being put in another hunger games, and what does he do? He blows up the fucking arena!! Again! And it works this time.

The things they took from him might've been worth keeping, but he's not going to ever let their loss be worth dying. He doesn't break, he doesn't close himself off to love, he fights back, again and again and again.

they should make a quarter quell arena where it’s just like a mini version of panem with mutts unique to the different districts, but the only catch is you’re not allowed in your own district area

Beetee Headcanon

His next child (son or daughter, I haven't decided) was Reaped during the 65th Games, at fourteen rather than twelve, bc Snow just loved the idea of letting him think his kid was safe for two years before ruining his life again. Said kid had to go into the arena with none other than Finnick Odair, another 14y/o with similarly great prospects.

Finnick won that year. Beetee, at first, wanted to hate him. After all, Finnick is the direct reason his kid didn't survive (compared to Haymitch who tried his best to save Ampert) but it doesn't take long for the guilt to win him over. He watches Finnick navigate the trafficking, the secrets, the Mentoring, and everything in between and, just a year after Finnick officially 'goes on the market' enlists him to get secrets/leverage from his Capitolite patrons.

Beetee can never look at Finnick without seeing ghosts of his dead child but, at the same time, has a deeply protective side to him bc of how much Finnick reminds him of [kid's name].

Also, bc we love pain, Beetee's wife killed herself after this kid.
