1, 14, and 21 for the end of year fic asks <3
1. favorite fic you wrote this year
Before a Fall. It's the first fic I've ever written, and I was stupidly overambitious. I wanted to do ALL THE THINGS--fill in a gazillion gaps from canon, pay tribute to the enemies-to-lovers trope and the romance genre, make some kind of meta-commentary about fandom and bonding over our favorite things. It's not perfect, but I think I managed to pull the thing off, somehow, and I'm still shocked that I managed to actually get it done.
14. a fic you didn’t expect to write
Coriander, my coffeeshop AU that was wholly inspired by @illusemywords RQG exchange prompts. I previously hadn't read many AUs beyond canon-divergent AUs, and I've been really surprised by how much fun I've had transplanting these characters into an original setting. Too much fun, maybe--when I started writing, I thought it'd end up being around 15k words (lol), but I got invested!
21. most memorable comment/review
All of the unimaginably thoughtful comments that @eleanor-is-fine left on Before a Fall, which ended up doing so much to shape that fic for the better and led to a truly wonderful friendship and the best beta I could ever ask for!
But if I had to pick just one, this comment on Before a Fall has really stayed with me:
This is story is already brilliantly written, with the characterisation and worldbuilding, but the subtle tributes to Korean culture are just killing me !! How did you create something that speaks on such a personal level, I’m having the time of my life savouring it
I wrote my culture into the fic because I wanted to see myself in this world I love, and for someone to suggest that these references made the story even better?? I felt so seen <3
