#beginner dnd

hey yall, i was thinking of doing a dnd campaign with my irl friends. i have players and an idea for the main quest/storyline, but have no idea how to get started otherwise! does anyone have any advice for first time dms and players? ill include more specific asks below the cut, and u can message me or reblog with answers! thanks so much in advance :)

1. what kind of stuff will i need for physically running a game?

i know i need dice, but what kind of notes should i have with me?

same things for players, what would they need to bring to a session?

also if anyone has recs for cheap dice PLEASE lmk i will be in your debt forever

2. would you suggest i get a physical copy of the 5e sourcebook or stick with the digital resources?

its a classic fantasy setting (as per the request of my lovely friends) so my sibling reccommended using 5e

3. how can i help my players create their characters?

yeah none of us have done it before lol

i know they need character sheets but i have no clue how to fill them out

if anyone has examples/directions for filling them out i would really appreciate that :)

Hello! I'm not too sure if you're the person to ask for this, but recently I've been trying to get into dnd and I don't have anywhere to start. I'm not sure where to find starter kits, or if I should trust stuff like Amazon to buy things for it. Do you have any advice? If not, sorry for bothering you!

Hi there! I have a bit of advice for ya!

I'd recommend going to the dungeons and dragons website. They have a lot of great free I formation and links to starter sets. As long as it's made from them I'd recommend it. But before buying anything D&D had free starter info.

If you do a bit of googling, there are downloads for the starter books and character sheets. Always test out the free versions before buying. D&D stuff can get very pricey.
