Whoa there, pardner! What have you done to make sure that belief or practice actually originates in ancient times and didn't come from the imagination of a repressed Victorian romantic?

Whoa there, pardner! What have you done to make sure that belief or practice actually originates in ancient times and didn't come from the imagination of a repressed Victorian romantic?
eight years into my spirituality and I finally know what they mean when people talk about raising energy.
To raise energy you must get completely out of your mind. You must get into your body, into the present moment, forget time exists. It's about getting to a place and a mindset where you're simply just doing, being, not thinking.
And it cannot be forced. For years I've tried sitting, meditating, willing energy into objects or worse, into the world in general, and found it doesn't work.
Whether you get there by dancing in the shower, by meditating, by allowing yourself to feel an emotion viscerally, it doesn't matter. It just matters that you're not thinking.
And you can literally feel it. To me it feels like a blood rush to the head, my arms will usually raise above my head on instinct, and my face smiles. It feels like a shot of b12. It tingles.
Then the energy just moves with nothing more than a thought, an impulse, a desire. It just becomes. It just is.
Hello!
Sorry to bother you but I’ve been trying to figure something out in witchcraft and google hasn’t been much help so I’m turning to the tumblr witches
Would you happen to know the general uses of coins in magic? I know that some people use them but I’m not really sure for what or what their correspondences are (other than money obviously)
Have a nice day/evening/night!💫
hello there! im sososo sorry for the super late response, I've had some family issues and all.
basically you can use coins for absolutely everything you want to. but since you're looking for advice, i'm going to give you a few examples. just remember to not limit yourself <3
- spells for acquiring materialistic things
- healing spells if the coins are copper (since copper is antimicrobial)
- cleansing if the coins are silver or gold (even if it's not actual silver or gold). the materials/colors have long been associated with purity! :)
- money attraction spells (obviously)
- offerings to deities
- glamour magic (since money/wealth is associated with looking good, but also because gold and silver is a status symbol that will make people perceive you differently)
as for how to use them..
- put them in a bowl and add and take out things to keep the energy flowing (bowl spells)
- make a spell jar and seal them shut with a coin on top and wax securing it
- bury it in a flower pot after enchanting the coin
- enchant the coin and wear it as jewelry or keep it in your pocket/purse/near you
- enchant the coin and use it to buy something with it for extra luck with the product
do absolutely anything else that feels right, these are just some ideas! good luck and if you have any more questions, don't be scared to ask <3
So I've been really interested in witchcraft and tarot recently, and I thought maybe it was from me wanting to be a witch -and when I do look into it and see stuff on tumblr and some of the books I have, it makes me really excited to go about it! But I also struggle a lot with feeling... stupid? For certain things?
Like, I really struggle with thanking the earth or spirits or anything like that, I'm VERY hesitant with the idea of prayer (I grew up Roman Catholic and it has an impact on my idea/usage of prayer in an unhealthy way), and saying spells out loud just makes me feel like a tryhard or like I'm being silly, even though it's something I'm interested in and love reading and learning about and *want to do*. It's having an impact on my motivation to meditate/ground daily, which I know are important to learn and know.
Did you or anyone you know struggle like this? What helped? Is it just a matter of giving yourself time and practice? What's a good way to ease into these things?
Hey love, don’t worry plenty of beginner witches feel this way!
What you need to know is that you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do in witchcraft (except for basic safety measures and being respectful, etc.). You don’t have to pray to any Gods if that’s not you, there are lots of atheist witches out there. Each witches path and journey is very unique, and the way you practice is entirely up to you. If you feel silly saying spells out loud you can always say them in your head until you’re more comfortable. There is no one set way to practice witchcraft so make your craft something that you wholeheartedly enjoy!!
For example, I’ve always heard how valuable and essential it is to have a tarot reading journal, or keep track of your readings in some way. I tried this out but I just didn’t enjoy it and it made tarot feel like homework which really took a toll on my motivation. So I don’t keep a tarot journal, and that’s ok.
No two witches are the same. I hope this helped you♡ ♡
If there's one advice I can give to baby witches, it's this:
Learn the basics. Jus the very basics that you can find on tumblr. Lunar cycles, candles, herbs, meditation, really just the basics.
And then I want you to sit down and think about what you want to do with your path. Try to figure out what path would work for you or what interests you before you do anything else. And then leave witchblr and witchtok, forget the spells you find and try to look for books on that certain topic instead.
Because what I see a lot of baby witches do, and it's something I'm also guilty of, is that they dive in head first into the modern, western witchcraft that's all over witchtok and tumblr. Which is good if that's what you want to do. But allow yourself to move away from that path and find out what truly interests you.
When I started learning about witchcraft I didn't know anything else than this modern western witchcraft that we see everywhere. But it was only this year that I really realized that I didn't like that because it didn't feel personal. So even though I used to do spells, now I don't do that because I'm at the research phase 2.0. And it's amazing. It feels so much better to learn about hungarian paganism and folklore and how I can incorporate that in my craft than just doing general spells with generic ingredients. And that's because it feels more personal.

Making an Herbal Grimiore
So rather than waiting to post once it’s done, I figured I’d give you guys the process I’m working on currently! You may have seen my portable plant press I posted about yesterday, well it’s part of a larger project I’m working on and one you can do too.
Especially with winter creeping away, and the spring equinox getting ready to occur, there are many plants, weeds and wild things growing that you can take advantage of, not just for your day to day Witching, but making a tangible, expansive, and personalized tool that will be just...fucking awesome, and an heirloom if done right.
The easiest way to make this is with an expandable/post bound scrap book, or if you’re adventurous, making the book yourself. I’m doing the scrap book version because easily adding and removing pages, organizing etc is going to be easier. They also tend to look a little cleaner than a binder imo.
Here’s the concept: A book that has identifiers, pictures, correspondences, spells, and plant material. A book that, if that’s the only thing you could grab for some rushed spellwork, you would be able to complete it.
Collect plants that you have around you, especially those that you may already use in your craft.
Find out their name with some fancy googling, reverse image searches, local plant and foraging guides etc.
You can visit this site, click on the search magnifying glass on the photo stream , and type in the name. It will pull up antique botanical prints. You can then print these out and save yourself the frustration of not being able to draw like an 1800’s naturalist.
Pick the one you want/what’s most accurate, and print it out!
Now comes your descision about how you want things formatted. Depending on how much information you have, or if you want to leave room to add and keep everything contained, you can tape the pages together to form fold outs.
So I used 3 sheets of paper. Enough room to hand write notes, additional spells, meditations, growing instructions etc. also tissue paper envelopes take up very little space and are cheap to make. In each entry, you can write the info of when it was harvested, how, moon phase etc.
As you go, you can hand write an index and table of contents. Make it alphabetical, organize it by when you can harvest them on a seasonal basis! Do common, secret or scientific name in the index, write what spells you can do with them. This is an easy way to create a useful, personalized grimiore with the stuff you use.
Additionally, you can really trick it out by using a font made of your handwriting! Unfortunately I was rushed and wasn’t able to do it for this example, but I may do it in the future!
I’ll probably post other examples as I go, I’ll use the tag #herbal grimiore

🔮 Witch Tip! 🔮
Don’t do a spell you’re morally against. I am not going to define morals here for you. Every person has their own set of morals and ethics that is going to effect how they do magic.
The point here is that if you try to do a spell that you don’t agree with it might (in my experience) end up failing because subconsciously (or consciously) you might be wondering if you’re doing the right thing and you’ll contradict your intention!
This might seem like a silly tip but sometimes we let our desires come first. I did this once and when the spell failed I was devastated even though I knew I had worked against the spell in a lot of ways.
Note: there are no hard and fast rules in witchcraft. Some will disagree with this and that’s ok! This is from my perspective through my own experiences with my craft!
--- It’s okay not to have a green thumb.
You can trade, barter, or buy herbs too. <3
