Beginning Tarot

Finding out where to start is hard, so I threw together a few tips to find where you want to start. 

Choosing a Deck: There isn’t a starter deck that everyone has, but the majority of us have the same inspiration. The Rider Waite deck is what most of our decks are based on, but we have different depictions of them. Whichever version speaks to you (or even the original one, if that calls your name) should be the one you get, not what others decide for you.

Cleansing the Deck: There are many methods to cleansing a deck, some people smoke cleanse it, some leave it out in the moonlight, some even shuffle or re-order it from The Fool to The World, and Wands to the Pentacles. Whichever method works for you, works for your deck as well. 

Introduction to the Deck: I have used this interview spread I found one day on both of my decks (and my bestie with hers) I find it to be the most accurate with me. You can always look around for others you like. Once you’ve shuffled it to a point you feel comfortable in (and flipped them if you want reversed cards included) you can topdeck it (pull it from the top)

The six questions I tend to ask with this are 1) Tell me about yourself, your most important characteristic. 2) What are your strengths as a deck? 3) What are your limits? 4) What are you here to teach me? 5) How can I best learn and collaborate with you? 6) What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?

How to Interpret the cards: Everyone interprets cards differently, that’s what makes every reading so unique! If your deck comes with a guide book you can use that or you can buy separate books that can assist you. Two books I highly recommend are the Holistic Tarot (a chunky book) and Modern Witchcraft Book of Tarot: your complete guide to understanding the Tarot. 

One note that I’ve learned that’s helped me is not to look at it as studying with flashcards, but to think of it as learning a language.

What you don’t realize right now is that in order for that beauty to keep shining and prospering you need to be willing to put in the work and cultivate it. If you’re missing some sort of balance in your life now is the time to go within and ask yourself what are the changes you need to make in order to get there and make your dreams a reality.

Pile 2: Clear quartz

I see you guys getting your affairs in order and you are clearly stepping into your power. After a period of hardships you’re learning how to balance all aspects of your life and if you’re not there yet you will be. You’re feeling very inspired and like the sky is the limit which is wonderful 💕 although everything is starting to feel alright don’t forget that you are strong and resilient. Sadness is just part of the human experience. Remember that you are worthy and you are loved and that everything works out in the end!

Pile 3: Rose quartz

Wow you guys are STRONG lol! I see you guys getting your shit together and really setting off to get what you want in life. You will definitely get a chance to bask in all it is that you have built for yourself. You went through a period of feeling lost, stuck, and weak probably due to situations that were out of your control but I do see things changing for the better. Put your focus back onto yourself and see the beauty that surrounds you, learn to admire the little things that make life worthwhile. You guys are so beautiful, strong, and ever resilient. Don’t give up!
