Tomoko gets transformed into a cat-girl for a week, how does the world react? And how many naps does she end up taking?
/In a completely unamused voice/
Tomoko’s not taking it well, and her family, Kakashi and possibly Kei too, are somewhat panicking. I’m not even going to dwell on the world’s reaction, because it’s just going to make the situation worse. The reactions in a nutshell can be summed up like this:
Tomoko: O.O (starts tearing up at the sight of the tail) “Wh-What the heck is this?!”
Judai: (tries to keep up a smile while cracking his knuckles) “I-It’s okay, Tomoko-chan, we’ll try to find a cure. You’re not going to stay that way forever.” (glances to the side) “Whoever had the goddamn idea to do this is dead.”
Hikari: (blinks) “Dear, calm down. I have first dibs on the guy.”
Loving cats is one thing. Becoming an actual cat-girl, with ears and a tail out of some kind of otaku’s fetish dream is another thing.
I’m sorry if I sound pissed, Chief, but Tomoko—and by proxy, me—didn’t have the best of memories when it comes to cat-girls. Tokyo Mew Mew and various other anime fandoms have shown me how much otaku—and some people in general—can sexualize these kinds of characters, and being the sex-repulsed, demiromantic, and demisexual person I am, the scenario just seems so wrong for Tomoko, especially since she’s fine the way she is.
Sure, RWBY is a nice breather with Blake being badass and all, and if Tomoko was like Blake, I’d be okay with it. Nonetheless, the sexualization and fetishization still happens, even in the RWBY fandom sometimes, so this question overall left a sour taste in my mouth. Sorry.
