Walk around the Veera Narayana Temple and marvel at its jaw-dropping architecture!

Located in Belavadi, Veera Narayana Temple is truly a hidden gem of Chikmagalur, Karnataka. Known for its magnificent architecture, the awe-inspiring Veera Narayan Temple is one of the largest temples built by the Hoysala kings. 

This is a Vaishnava temple, and all three shrines houses the images of Lord Vishnu but in three different avatars - Narayana with four hands, Venugopala (Lord Krishna playing the flute) including a garuda pedestal, and Yoga Narasimha, sitting in a yoga posture. 

The most unique feature of this temple is that every year on 23rd March (Equinox), the morning rays of the sun fall directly on the Garbhagriha from the entrance door which is at a whopping distance of 270 feet.

The Veera Narayana temple is located in Belavadi, a village in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka state, India. The temple was built during the rule of the Hoysala Empire. Belavadi is said to be the place mentioned in Mahabharatha where Pandava prince Bheema killed the demon Bakasura and protected the village and its people. Belavadi is 29 km southeast of Chikmagalur town on the Chikmagalur-Javagal highway. It is a short distance from the famous temple town of Halebidu. Belavadi Sri.Veeranarayana Temple is one the classical example where in unique temple plan is executed. The temple is a trikuta having Sri.Veeranarayana in the center facing East, Sri.Venugopala facing North and Sri.Yoganarasimha facing South. Smoothly Carved Stone Pillars which can be used as MIRRORS... Veeranarayana Temple located very close to the famous Hoysal temple of Halebidu is a lesser known Hoysala temple, but well maintained by the ASI. This 1000 year old temple has a total of 108 Lathe Tuned Pillars and some of the Pillars are so smooth that it can be used as Mirrors.
