Underfoot in DUMBO...if you are not familiar DUMBO is a fascinating and history-laden enclave at the base of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, an industrial and much-preserved warehouse district where we have had the pleasure of working both at our studio-and now our shop-for 10 years...these are Belgian block stones which used to serve as ballast in trade ships traveling from Europe in centuries past, arriving with empty hulls, and much like today’s shipping containers these blocks were abandoned at port here in New York when the ships took on goods to sail back home. Although they can make riding in any wheels challenging, I never tire of how beautiful these fragments of the history of New York are and never cease to admire them whenever we walk over their sun-beaten and smoothed-out stone surfaces. #dayinthelife #TGdiary #cobblestones #belgianblock #stone #underfoot #lookdown #street #streetscene #beautifulcommute #dumbo #brooklyn #brooklynwaterfront #gotham #historylesson #nowyouknow #historical #historicalcity #historicalplace #beautiful #oldnewyork #architexture #urbanlife #newyorker #brooklynite #lifeofanewyorker (at DUMBO, Brooklyn)
