I hate that I used to be all "always believe the victims" and now I don't know what I think thanks to a culture which always accepts allegations against black people and queer people immediately, whilst remaining solidly skeptical in other cases. What does it mean to believe the victim when a judge in one country decides someone is definitely an abuser and then a jury in another country decides he's too charming to be anything other than a victim?
It doesn't help that I'm not convinced that "amplifying victim's voices" really amounts to anything more than pointless arguments which mostly end up inadvertently amplifying apologist talk or upsetting survivors. I think there might actually be a good argument for shutting up and minding our own business. Actual intervention that helps victims is not something you can really do from afar.
