hey what did you think of the series finale of merlin
I'm sorry it took me a while to answer this.
I absolutely loved the finale. I think it was the finale that this show deserved. I loved how it was centred on the most important relationship in the show - Merlin and Arthur... I loved how it was Merlin who was with Arthur in this last moments of his life. I will go with Alex on this one - it was a brilliant love story.
The magic reveal was amazing. Practically everything I ever wanted (beside the fact that I wanted to have a full 3-4 episodes about it but still).. starting with Merlin telling Arthur, crying, holding his hand, showing him his magic... Arthur telling Merlin to leave because he is scared. But then Gaius talking with Arthur and Arthur slowly getting to know Merlin magic and accepting it. He seemed like he felt in love with Merlin all over again in this 2 days of their journey. I love how happy Merlin was to finally show Arthur his skills, to finally show Arthur who we really are, that there were no lies between them... I love how Arthur wasn't mad at Merlin for actually having magic, but for the fact that he never told him about it, that he didn't trust him enough. The scenes between the two of them are amazing, full of emotions that I can feel till now and I can feel every time I rewatch it practically the same as the first time I've seen them. But it's the magic of Colin and Bradley chemisty and acting skills. They were amazing, seriously, all the awards.
The Arthur's death scene..well it was painful. Even tho I knew that this will happen, it was really painful to watch. I loved how proud Arthur was of Merlin in this last minutes of his life. I love how he just asked to hold him like there is no banter between them. If he has to die - he wants to die in Merlin's arms. The last scene between them was so emotional, Arthur finally saying thank you to Merlin not only for being his loyal servant and best friend but also for everything they ever done together to bring peace to Camelot. It was like thank you for your magic, thank you for the fact that you live for me.. I loved how Merlin whispered "stay with me" as he hold Arthur's head in his arms, it was such a beatiful moment, again all the awards for Colin and Bradley I can't imagine how incredibly hard it was for them to play that part.
Even thought I think Gwaine shouldn't have died, I think his death was beautiful.. He died protecting his best friends...it's really honourable death and after everything I'm glad that they made it like that - they always made joke from Gwaine's character but he died as a hero and that was beautiful. And I'm glad Percival was there with him...
And the end. I think it was brilliant. It's kinda stayed opened for everyone to have their own headcanons.. Did Arthur and Merlin meet again and be (finally) happy together and have a chance to fulfill their destiny? What happened to Merlin after he buried Arthur in the lake? Did Gwen ever have a heir and what happened with Leon and Percival? Every person can make their own story what happened next, and I think that is amazing thing....
So yes, I loved every single part of the finale and I wouldn't change a thing.. even tho it was painful and it hurts to think about Merlin living withour Arthur the thousand years.. it was absolutely amazing and beautiful way to end the show :)
