Hey I'm studying palaeontology in Sydney Australia and I was just going through your page and saw that there are abusive palaeontologists!? Are there some apart from Sereno that I should be worried about as a young female?

Shoot, I just saw this, I don’t check my inbox that often, sorry!

I mainly know about some American ones, so I can’t name many more than Sereno and Horner off the top of my head, but the main thing to keep in mind when going into science as any kind of minority is 1) talking to people who work with/work under an advisor to see what they’re like, and 2) having a support network (whether it be friends, other advisors, etc.)

Paleontology isn’t nearly as bad as other sciences in terms of having manipulative and abusive folks in it, but you do still need to exercise caution. It also depends on your year of schooling: if you’re an undergrad, you’re less likely to experience the direct abuse unless you’re at several intersections of oppression. But even so, be sure that you have people you can reach out to and also awareness of who you can/can’t trust in your department(s).

PRESENTING

This year's Cudocoylac redesign!!

For those who don't know this is like my channel mascot/one of my little personas and I'm SO HAPPY WITH HER!! She's awesome and I can't wait to start drawing her more since I got a good design down! Can't wait to see fan art and stuff in the future, she is THE BIRD.

One of my favorite things about being even remotely influential in an art community is the happiness I can give a younger artist by simply telling them I like their art.

AND I LOVE DOING IT TOO!!! I was once younger like that as well and even now having my favorite artists comment on my art makes my heart swell up it’s such an awesome feeling- just the power to make someone’s day and all I have to do is BE KIND TO THEM!!! Heck yea!

And as me, it’s so easy to take time out of my day and look around for fan art and tell people I appreciate it. I think they get so happy and it’s wonderful.

It’s a niche kind of happiness, and I wish everybody had that same kind of influence to make someone feel that way about their art; the person complementing you shouldn’t have to be an influencer to make you feel like your art is great!

I wish I could wrap my arms around all these starting artists and more that watch my channel and tell them I love their art and seeing them grow because honestly it’s so heartwarming n’ sweet- getting to see people who already have such wonderful talent explore their styles as well, I love art and animation so much
