She was going to killed for this. He was going to kill her for this. It wasn’t a sneaking suspicion that he’d hacked her things again. Even with no confirmation, Christine knew he’d somehow gotten back onto her laptop and in her phone and in her room and was tracking her again. Last time, she’d just thrown the laptop in a dumpster and gotten a new phone. She’d rented a university laptop, hoping he wouldn’t have been able to find her...
But things just seemed off and she knew he was back. He was following her again. He had to have been.
So that’s why she called a number she’d lifted off a computer cafe for assistance with “removing a virus” out of her phone and laptop. (And demanded they meet somewhere publicly.) But, if she took her laptop and phone with her, she’d know Erik would know where she was, and he’d find out, and wouldn’t this guy be in danger, too?
But she needed to know. She needed to see that he was still back inside of her laptop.
So she sat in a cafe patio with her laptop and phone at the far edge of table, as if it was a dangerous animal that was going to snap at her, and waited for the man to show. He sounded warm. Kind. Like he wasn’t going to ask too many questions--
